It's normal to be anxious and nervous- any time one of my pups has any kind of surgery I worry. Surgery day can be really long too waiting for the 'all done' call. Jerry is right on with keeping busy and taking control of what you can. If your house is all ready hang out here and read success stories for inspiration!
Let us know when Jake is out of surgery and how he is doing.

Thinking of you and Jake this morning. It sounds like you won't have to come up with anything to distract you/keep you busy today while Jake's in surgery. I hope you daughter feels better soon. Do update us after Jake's surgery. I suspect he'll be up and able to go out to pee later in the day.
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Jake is a beautiful golden -- I love the blondies. Good luck and lots of positive thoughts and prayers for all of you.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
Awww he's such a sweet pup!
Sometimes ya gotta wonder why the universe throws so much ick at us at one time. All you have to keep telling yourself is, there's a lesson in it somewhere.
If it's financially feasible, you may want to ask your vet if Jake can stay two or three nights. That can help make the transition easier for your family, since the first nights can be pretty ruff on dogs and their people when the post-surgery pain meds wear off.
Good luck today. Hope your daughter and wife feel better!

Always a relief to hear this good news-- are you bringing him home tomorrow?

Wooo hoo! One major step, out of the way. Be sure to write down any questions you have for the doc. Good luck!

If everything goes as planned, he'll be coming home tomorrow. I picked him up at the vet and transported him to the pet hospital for overnight observation and pain control. I was able to ride in the back of the van with him and he was doing great. I really loved that I was able to spend some time with him and reassure him that he's going to be okay. He was put into the largest cage at the hospital that had a nice firm mattress. I'm really looking forward to getting him back home tomorrow.
This is Jake at the hospital.
Oh he looks tired but really good all things considered. I am so, so happy for you, I had a tear and a smile when I saw the picture. Happy new beginnings for Jake. Hope you're first weekend with Jake home goes well.

Oh, sweet baby. We did the same with Abby - had to pick her up and move her to the overnight hospital. What a difference that 12 or so hours made! When she busted out of the hospital the next morning, she ran across the parking lot so fast that I wasn't ready for it and dropped the leash!
Hope he has an uneventful recovery.
Get some rest before he gets home!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. So glad the surgery went well. The pics are wonderful. He is a beautiful dog.
We are here for you if you have any questions/concerns. The first couple of weeks can be a bit stressful!

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end.
