Hi Jasmine & Erika,
Now, if I am understanding everything correctly, you have already received the diagnosis of bone cancer in Jasmine's leg, but you just don't know what kind it is. I know you have your trip planned and you had hoped to have a way to relieve some of the emotional pain you went through when you had the house fire and lost Shadow and Sammy, plus all the worry and concern you had for Jasmine with her lymphoma diagnosis. It is very obvious that you are a top-notch loving pawrent. My fear is, would you really be able to relax in Costa Rica knowing that you would worry about Jasmine the whole time you were there? Being so far away when Jasmine is as sick as she is may torment you more than relax you. If you do decided to go with the surgery, I definitely agree that you would want to have Jasmine stay with a good friend vs. the dog camp. I know the owner means well, but it would probably not be wise to have Jasmine around so much activity with other dogs and with a fresh incision, it would be a big risk. The one thing that is very important to understand is that dog's hurt much worse than they let on to their humans. Bone cancer is a horribly painful disease and, eventually, no pain meds will work against that type of pain, at all. The doctor's also explained that if the cancer advances too far, that the bone could shatter into many, many pieces because it becomes so weak from the cancer. I know you have some very tough decisions to make and your finances are not what you would like for them to be. I wish you very much luck in making your decisions, regardless of what you decide to do. I'm sorry that life has thrown another "wrench" into your life; you have been through so much in the last couple of years. Good luck to you.
Your friends, Blazer, Kitty Kimber & Mom (Vicki)
