Here is a little background. After about two months of vet visits trying to figure out why he was limping, we took him to get an MRI this past week. We found out Wednesday that he has a tumor on his shoulder requiring his front right leg to be amputated. We are devastated and still processing everything but moving forward with the amputation today. He’s normally super fluffy but we got him pampered this weekend and got his hair cut short so that he can recover comfortably without a bunch of hair getting near his wounds. This whole thing is so hard. Trying to come to terms with it. It breaks my heart that he is hurt and not the normal happy goofy pup. I am looking for support and any words of encouragement. I know he will be resilient but this is so tough. I posted this on Reddit but was told about this website so hoping to gain more knowledge and support.
Thank you all.
Hello Ty and furmily, welcome to the club nopawdy wants to join. I'm sorry that you got hit with this diagnosis. Our Jerry was given the same bad news and we remember feeling just as gut-punched and upset as you are. Yes it's hard to cope with! We humans have so much baggage and emotions at a time like this. But if there's one thing you will see soon is that dogs are more resilient and strong than we ever imagine. You really don't know it until you go through this together.
We hope you'll check out Jerry's Required Reading List , and our What to Expect articles while you wait for the news. Ask whatever questions you'd like about recovery and so forth, and be sure to post in Treatment and Recovery once he's home and on the mend.
Best wishes to you both! Please keep us posted.
P.s. That's pretty cool that the Reddit community told you about us! We don't get a chance to go there very often so it's nice to know that you found out that way.
Thank you so much. Ty made it thru recovery and is currently resting at the hospital. I hope to be able to pick him up tomorrow but they said it might be two days over night. Regardless, they sent me a picture of him resting which was so sweet and reassuring. Can’t wait to see my tripawd!
Alright, surgery is done and Ty is probably seeing a lot of pink elephants tonight! Now is the time for YOU to get a good night's sleep.
We know all this is so scary and exhausting mentally and physically. The hard part is done now. That's not to say recovery is a picnic for the first couple of weeks. The bum leg is gone and you are giving Ty the gift of a pain free quaility life full of spoiling and loving. Ty will be your FLUFFY Happy goofy pup again, but without the pain!!
When you do go pick him up, don't even bother looking at the incision or drawing attention to it. Jist come in confident and upbeat and tell him what a good boy he is and he's going home!!!
Had to chuckle a bit about Ty getting "defluffed". No worries, the Surgeons seem to get very clipper Happy when shaving around the surgery site.
Would love to see pictures of Ty. Here's a link to help with the posting. Adding images.
Check through the links Jerry gave you and then let us know any questions you may have.
We're right here by uour side and will help you navigate through recovery and onto living life to the fullest as one of the cutest Goldendoodle Tripawds ever!!!
Hugs
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Aww YAY! So glad the surgery went well. How is he doing today?
Yes we'd love to see photos! Adding images works like this:
Basically you need to:
- upload a photo somewhere like your own Tripawds blog, or a public image hosting site like Imgur.com
- then copy the image URL (or just tap the image and copy it if you're on a mobile device)
- return here, and paste the image into your forum post.
Hope that makes sense. Let us know if you'd like help!
Hi and sorry to hear about Ty. I can think of another golden doodle and he did awesome as a Tripawd who was also a front leg amp. His name is Griffen. I know he has a blog.
Happy to hear surgery is over. It will be a little tough the next couple weeks. But once he is off the meds and the stiches come out you will see a remarkable change.
Hope to see pics and sending positive thoughts your way.

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

No problem. You will have to start at the beginning of the blog. Stacie has been so kind to foster a lot of pets that she posted.
