Thanks again for all of your thoughts! We are all most certainly on this bus together - as bumpy as the ride gets, somehow it makes it a ton easier!

Love the cereal with ice cream on top Holly. Now that does sound pretty awesome.  LOL Comet - that's some diet you'd have yourself on...can't forget Inn N Out Burgers and fries, chocolate chip cookies (in addition to your peanut buter cookies) and truffle mac n cheese (3 cheeses - just thought I'd throw something gourmet in with the truffle for you) laughing

I know a lot of tripawds have been on prednisone when they get lung mets? Am I getting this straight? I'm wondering if that's something that will be prescribed to Mackenzie at some point.  We're also talking about adding palladia to her protocol - Jerry sent a link on it - I meant to thank you Jerry for sending that and Pat for telling me that Ruthie was also on it.  Will be asking more questions and sharing more information on this as I delve into this.

Til then....throwing caution into the wind....smile

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

My onco vet has said that if/when the cytoxan stops working for Tai that we will switch to Palladia so that sounds like a common protocol.

Mmmmmmmmm gotta love burgers and fries. Now that Tai's grain free she has to skip the bun but that's A OK with her anyway. Bring on the saturated fat. YUMMY!!

We're with you all the way and keeping our fingers and paws crossed.

Laura and Tai

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.

Kami and Mackenzie,

Finaly home from our 2010 version of "June in Yellowstone" and am trying to play catch-up. While I may not have posted lately here for you, both of you have been in our thoughts and prayers. Reading all the excellent replies above, you have been in excellent hands.

You are doing great with both your attitude and approach. These definately are the days to pamper and make memories. Remember this is from one that had the most fickle of appetites to deal with. I was often told that Miss Cherry had to get back on a more balanced diet but frankly it was much more important to get her to eat - ANYTHING! Once we were past the chemical taste of the chemotherapy and she had a slight appetite, I found that hard cooked eggs were a healthy constant part of her diet. I would have liked to give her hamburger but the once that I tried, she presented it back to me an hour later. Moral of the story, try it and if it works, go with it. If it does not work, move on and try something else. I would build a very large menu of things that Mackenzie enjoys since we so very often seem to struggle with failing appetite near the end. Also, the Science Diet Hypoallergenic Treats have been another very positive. Cherry's breeder sent us some just as Cherry's appetite was returning and she loved them. Also, Magic also loved them when his appetite started to wane.

Above all, remember that we are here for any support that we can give.

Hugs, Pawsitive Thoughts, and Prayers

Mmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmmmm those all sound good!

One of favorite things is chewy pecan pralines made in San Antonio, TX.  We'd find them everywhere when I was growing up. (You Texans know what I'm talking about!)  Lo' and behold Neiman Marcus started selling them in a pretty package during Christmas season!

I found this and thought it would put a little smile on everyone's face:

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

that is a cute picture, thanks for posting it. I'm trying to figure out how to post something under Coping with Loss. I am the other pawrent (Cathy) to Skyler, who earned her wings on June 11. I know Jane has posted in the past, so I created my own account so I can participate. Every evening I have been reading up on various posts, and I really do feel like part of the Tripawd family.

Oh Comet - that's a great picture! A picture after Spirit Cherry's and Dad's heart! I think you need to post this with Jerry's ice cream update.  It's perfect!  Spirit Cherry's Dad - as always, thanks for your words of wisdom - and we hope you had a great time on your trip.  I certainly agree with you that I have been in excellent hands!

Cathy - welcome and we are thinking of you and Skylar and know that this must still be so difficult and painful.  Probably by now you have been able to post in the forum.  Good luck with everything!

Laura- thanks for letting me know what your vet said about the palladia.  It does sound like it is a common protocol for this stage.

Comet - chewy pecan pralines......definitely add that to the list! laughing
