Yes, so far it sounds pretty good. But also frustrating given they don't know and it does not seem an easy area to examine.
I don't know if radiation will be needed, but to be clear the type of radiation at CSU is different than what is available in Calgary or at almost all places with a couple of exceptions (Florida - but that is even farther!). It is targeted with a higher dose to the evil area with fewer beams to healthy areas. That is why they can use it to 'cure' as opposed to 'palliate' (is that a word - probably not). Anyway, my bets and thoughts are that she doesn't have anything that begins with "C". Go Kali Go!
I am very glad that the biopsy did not slow her down. That is a bonus.
p.s. a long drive, but it would be a pretty drive, especially from Calgary! Two half days of driving will get you there.
Okay so...2nd opinion on biopsy came back. Identical to first - nothing conclusive. The surgical Vet spoke toTai's onco Vet (who is on medical leave and very kindly took the call at home) who recommended sending the biopsy sample to CSU for a third opinion. For now they have opted to do nothing except rest and then reultrasound in a month. As the vet says "if its cancer it will rear its ugly head again". So we wait...
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
I'm following along with Karen's plan. Unusual, superhero shoulders formed by intense meditation on gophers.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Ha ha I should have paid you $5000 instead! I like your plan!

Oh waiting is no fun. Here's hoping cancer doesn't rear it's ugly head!! Keep your ugly head hidden, Cancer! Nobody wants to see your ugly ol' mug!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. The vet actually said that?!? What a great bedside manner! Anyway, the picture sounds relatively bright right now. Cancer doesn't seem too likely. But I like the suggestion of having someone at CSU look at her record. People speak highly of their labwork as well as their oncologists. I hope you can follow Kali's lead - don't worry and have some fun.
Wow! That is so werid.
Hey how about you and Kali bring the sample to CSU? We want to meet you!

Hello,
No radiation experience here either but just wanted you to know I am thinking of you! To have to go down this road again with another dog(and so young!)...
Good luck with Kali and your treatment choices.
Tracy, Maggie's Mom
Maggie was amputated for soft tissue sarcoma 10-20-09
Maggie lost her battle with kidney disease on 8-24-13
We just got back from CSU. Dozer just had steriotactic radiation therapy, SRT. Dozer is a tripawd because of trauma and hip dysplasia, 1 yr out. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in feb/march. he was lame in right front leg, howling in pain. now after 3 treatments is chasing the cats and begging for food. You can contact CSU yourself. Jocey will forward your info to the appropriate people and get the ball rolling. The docs will also consult with your vet on preliminary workup too. Jocelyn.Pronko@colostate.edu is her email, she is the clinical coordinator for the cancer center. Everyone we encountered from the front desk, students, docs, volunteers were wonderful.
I hope everything comes out ok. Dozer's mom, Renee7979
if your interested in SRT here is the link to Dozer's pics i posted.

Sending good thoughts that it is B9!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Results are in from CSU. No evidence of cancer!! Official diagnosis from their lab is loose edematous fibrosis, no necrosis present...aka a muscle tear. My vet has cautioned that we still have 2 opinions that suggest possible cancer, but I prefer to think that CSU has more experience in their labs, seeing as cancer diagnosis and treatment is their specialty. Kali is still on forced rest for another 3 weeks and then a follow-up ultrasound to check for regrowth etc. in the last part of May. Reserved happy dances here today!

Yea — I am so happy about your good news. I, too, would go with experts at CSU. They (unfortunately) see many more cases of cancer than most local vets do. We'll all have our fingers crossed until Kali gets a clean bill of health in May.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
