I am still reeling from the news I got today about Dixie! Dixie is about 11 days post-amputation, and we got her pathology reports back a few days ago so we finally know what we're dealing with. She had a soft tissue sarcoma. The vet feels very positive about the results of the surgery, and even stated that the surgery could be curative. We had an ultrasound done today to check her lungs and some other organs - it was completely clear! The vet mentioned that chemo could still be an option for her, as a precautionary measure. In all my readings of how to help Dixie, that's one avenue I haven't explored (figured I'd cross that bridge when/if I got there) so I don't know how to make that decision. Seems unnecessary yet I'd never forgive myself if we didn't do the chemo and then the cancer came back.
I've been making all her food and am exploring a raw diet as well. My husband is thrilled because he thinks that means he should go hunting more in order to provide food for Dixie.
Dixie got to meet Spirit Chilidawg's mom and little sis yesterday! I hope to come to the next Chicago get-together and have Dixie meet some Tripawds!
Woo-hoo! That is great news!
The type of soft tissue sarcoma will determine what kind of follow-up care is needed. Tate's is histiocytic sarcoma - very nasty! Chemo definitely recommended! But others are not so bad and chemo may not be warranted - sounds like that's the kind Dixie has.
We're jealous you've gotten to meet Chili Dawg's family! We haven't actually met in person (or dog) yet but that little Juliana is a cutie-pie in her pictures. "Oh man!"

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
Hooray for Dixie! That is great news about the clear ultrasound.
And, yeah, we are jealous too that you got to meet Chili Dawg's family. We only know how wonderful they are from online interaction!
All the best for continuing good news for Dixie!
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. So happy to hear the good news! Can't believe we live right down the road from each other- what are the odds?!? Dixie is doing amazing! I was so impressed to see her getting around so well. I've been talking about her for the past couple days- Chili Dawg did not recover that quickly, so I'm glad you are getting to enjoy her "Tripawdness" already. Give her a belly rub for me and kiss Mumford for Juliana, she was quite taken by him 😉

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Woo Hoo-Happy Dance for Dixie!
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.
