I can totally relate to the idea that Max wasn't ready to go yet. It was one of the reasons we turned from 'no way' to 'ok, let's amputate'. And of course it has been stressful for your whole family. Good luck tomorrow, Max. We'll all be here rooting for you.
Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise
Linda, Bob, and Max....it seems like finally being in a place to make and accept a decision is half the battle; it really takes a toll on the soul. I remember a similar feeling with Nitro last summer...so dreading the amputation itself, but then terrified he wouldn't be able to have the surgery. Such an emotional time! I know they will take great care of him in Appleton. We had a different Dr., but everyone was so nice to us and extremely qualified. Good luck tomorrow, and let us know if you need ANYTHING!
Paula and Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
"Be good, mama loves you".....run free my beautiful Warrior

Thanks so much guys! I've been wanting to share a picture of Max but you've got this 65 year old technically challenged lady here so I'm hoping Bob can help me with that. I did text one to Paula (cause that I can handle) but hope to get one on here soon so you can see our beautiful big boy. Again you are all a group of Angels to me and you will never know how much your support means to me. Since the first day I posted here in utter misery and got your wonderful support I've never felt "alone" in this nasty journey! You are truly a blessing to the people you help daily and I thank you!!

And I apologize to Martha and the Oaktown pack. I loved loved loved the videos. I had the biggest smile on my face watching them!! I meant to thank you days ago and as I was re-reading all these posts I realized I hadn't thanked you and everyone else that shared their videos for showing me how grand life can be "after". I have a hunch Bob has been "lurking" here and I'll bet seeing all those has helped him too. I find myself coming to this site not only for support and advice but also my daily smiles. Because you have to smile on here too. You can find so much happiness here too!
Linda,
I was just signing in to wish you and Bob and most of all Max all the best tomorrow and saw your last post. Pssshhhhht! No thanks or apologies needed! Codie Rae is happy you liked the videos.
I am so happy your consult went well and that Bob is pleased with your new vet and is feeling better about making the decision to amputate. Sounds like you found a great resource in Dr. Ryan. You have been under such stress no wonder you broke down! To have the decision made must have been such a relief. Plus you have had this crash course in all things tripawd over such a short time your head is probably spinning!
We will have all Lucky 13 paws crossed here in Oaktown for a smooth and uneventful surgery and will be sending all our tripawd strength to Max. Tell Max three tripawd GSDs and one mutt will be rooting for him tomorrow!
xoxo,
Martha, Codie Rae, and the Oaktown Pack
