Emily has a big day tomorrow.  She has her fourth and final chemo and her first chest x-ray.  I have been a nervous wreck even though her breathing has been fine.  I know you all know what I mean.  Pray for her.

Oh we will be thinking about you guys tomorrow!!!  I completely know how you feel 🙂  It helped me to remember that even if Jack did show up with mets, they weren't large enough to affect his breathing or quality of life, so we still had plenty of time with him!  I'm glad Emily is doing so well and best wishes Superstar

It is so NORMAL to be anxious about that first x-ray after chemo.  You just don't know what to expect.  You have a great attitude, regardless of the news, that attitude will take you a long way.

Fingers and paws crossed for a great report tomorrow.

Paws are crossed that all goes as planned tomorrow. As my oncologist explained to us, normally they take a chest x-ray prior to the final chemo to verify that met have not developed during the previous treatments. I am sure that all this presumes that a chest x-ray was taken before starting treatment for a baseline. I think that you can be pretty sure that this one will be clean. We will be thinking of you both and sending all the pawsitive thought possible to you both.

Yeah!  Everything went great for Emily's final chemo and her chest x-ray was clear!  We are celebrating!  Wednesday will be Emily's three month anniversary for her amputation.  It is hard to believe it has been that long...and that short.  Without the amputation we would probably be preparing to say goodbye to her about now.  I am so grateful to our vet Dr. Vanessa Douglas, to all the wonderful people at OSU Veterinary Hospital, and you all of you, you have kept me sane.  I know that most likely she will still end up with lung mets but we are living for the day.  Thanks everyone!

Emily - you mentioned that you were part of a combo drug chemo study. Can you tell me more about that? What drugs are they using in combination and are they comparing the results to a "single-agent" (when only one drug is used)?

By the way, congratulations on your great news! A big relief!!

Susan and Tazzie 2,

The drug study that Emily is in is a Clinical Evaluation of Combined Carboplatin/Gemcitabine in the Treatment of Canine Osteosarcoma.  Can you tell I typed it from the information paper they gave us!  LOL.  There are only about 30 dogs enrolled in the study right now and it is too new for them to tell how it will affect overall survival.  They do, however, tell us that the results are encouraging.  It is interesting that the combination of these two drugs is of interest to pediatric oncologists at the Ohio State University Hospital and they are watching the results closely.  What a double blessing it will be if the combination of these drugs benefits children as well.  I also want to mention something we heard following Emily's chest x-ray.  The oncologist said that Emily will continue to have chest x-rays every three months and if her x-rays are clear after a year "maybe we got it all".  No one had every said "maybe we got it all".  I am cautiously optimistic.

Wow - now that is a comment we'd all love to overhear! Way to go Emily.

And Yoda - I was wondering where you were lurking. You sort of dropped off the tripawd planet around the time you had a few worries, at least it seemed that way. Good luck this week - I'm sure it will all go well.
