I went hunting through the thread about what people paid for amputation and chemo and it seems that (shockingly to me at least) Canada was just REALLY expensive!
I agree, I'm always shocked at what it costs there. Yes there is a conversion rate but I don't think there's that much of a difference between our two currencies?
Thanks for getting Mica into the convo Erica!

I guess it's just the cost of veterinary care in Canada ... I was joking with Erica that this is the price we pay for having free human healthcare.
I stumbled on this Ontario organization that helps fund veterinary care on a case-by-case basis. Thought this might be helpful.

The Companion Animal Wellness Foundation (CAWF) is a registered not-for-profit foundation dedicated to providing financial aid to economically disadvantaged pet owners whose companion animals are in need of emergency or specialty veterinary care.
So true Mica! That's funny (ok not really but..)
Thanks for the CAWF info, I'll be sure to add it to our Financial Resources document.

Hi everyone,
I want to thank all of you for your support and suggestions. You were kind enough to care at a terrible time for us.
I am sad to tell you that at the end of June, we had to say goodbye to our Madi-girl. After realizing that treatment was not an option for us, we were managing her pain with meds. On the 28th of June, we saw that her pain meds were no longer giving her relief and we decided to take her to emergency vet. After speaking to the doctor, made the heart-breaking decision to set our girl free. We were with her until the end, cuddling her and telling her what a good girl she was. It's still very difficult to bear; Madi was such a big part of our lives, it feels like we lost a big part of ourselves. Madi's legacy will be a positive one. It is impossible to think of her without smiling, so it's impossible to be sad without feeling immense gratitude for the time we had with Madi. She was an amazing soul and we will never forget her.
Another part of Madi's legacy is that her unconditional love and unrelenting spirit has left us unable to imagine living without the love of a canine companion. We decided to honour Madi by rescuing another pup who needed us. We welcomed Lucy, a one-year-old doberman mix as a new part of our family. Lucy is helping us remember the good times with Madi and not to be too sad.
Again I want to thank all of you who responded when we needed you most. This is an amazing site and really opened my eyes to the world of tripawds You are all heroes to me!
I am so sorry for your loss.
Your love for her is evident--as is her spirit and her wonderful legacy. Hugs to you.

Ohhhhh, I'm so sorry, so very sorry. You did the best you could for your wonderful Madi and I dn't think any dog could have been anymore loved! As mmrocker said' "Your love is evident".
And you showed the depth of your love when it was most iportant....yo put her desire to be released fro pain above your desire to "keep her". That takes so mich courage and love.
You've written beautifully about her legacy and how deeply and profoundly you have been touched by her time withyou. That kind of connectinis never broken
You've honored Madi in a very life affirming way by bringing Lucy into your home...."lucky" Lucy. Madi showed you you must always have a dog in your famiy! We all get that! Good job Madi!
Now Madi, you have quite the task showing this new pups the ropes! Your pawparents will know you're still around just by some of the goofy things you teach Lucy to do! No, Madi, dn't teach her to get i to the trash:-)
You and your famiky are in our thoughts. We are always here foryu....especialy during this t e. We understand.

I'm so very sorry, please accept my condolences. I know it wasn't easy to come back here to share this sad news, but thank you so much for taking the time to do so. Because you shared her journey with us, your Madi will always be a part of this community, even as an angel dog. Her legacy of courage and bravery will live on forever.
If you need a shoulder to lean on, we are here for you. Give your new pup a big smooch from us, you're so lucky to have her to help you though the sadness.
