Welcome to you and Chance. I'm sorry you find yourself here with us.
We have a few members in the Chicago area, so hopefully they will respond.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Welcome! I am not too far from Frankfort. I'm on the southside of Plainfield towards Joliet. Last spring our Golden Retriever had osteosarcoma and we amputated. I would be happy to talk to you about it. Feel free to PM me on here.

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Hi Linda. I enjoyed talking with you on chat the other night. I know you have such a difficult situation going on and you guys have been in my thoughts. When I mentioned to you about finding members in that area I was hoping that there might be someone that could meet up with you and let your husband see in person a tripawd kiddo and how well they can do. Although we are in PA, just PM me and I would be more than happy to talk with you by phone if you think it would help.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Wolf is a new amputee (6 days) in Joliet. He does not have cancer to deal with (thankfully) - he was a puppy we adopted with a severe, unfixable elbow fracture. If you all are meeting already and are hoping to just discuss the cancer side of things, I don't want to impose but I'd really love to meet you all as well. I'm exhausted with the stress of this and would love the support. Eileen
Well sounds like one of these days we will have to have a Meet at the Beach! We'll see how Chance does (you are more than welcome to join us even if you decide against an amp), Wolf will be up and running in a week or two, then we have Cadence, Ginger, Isabelle, Holly, Spirit ChiliDawg, Spirit Tate, Spirit Smilin'Sammy (if we time it right) and assorted monkeybutts. And any other newbies out there.
I found just being with others that have been through this very...um, restful? Reassuring? Relaxing? All of the above. It's like being with family. You can talk freely about everything, no one to judge, no one says "It's just a dog."

I hope to meet you soon and you can PM me anytime. Tate didn't have ostesarcoma so Heather and Jenna are more qualified than me. But Tate had a hemipelvectomy so his recovery was a little more difficult than most.
