Hi everyone! I recently adopted my dog Ziva who is a catahoula leopard x aussie from my local humane society while I was working there. She had been abandoned at a fence and was there for three days. The rescuers figured she was abandoned because of her back right hip being injured. Her hip joint kept sliding in and out of place so when we got her at the shelter before her amputation she was basically already tripawd.

She’s 2 years old and house trained but I have noticed every once in a while she we “leak” a little bit. It’s been 4 months since she got her leg removed and has recovered really well. Do other 3 legged dogs have the same problem?

Do I get her a dog diaper for in the house? Is there something I can do to help her balance easier when she owes incase she isn’t finishing cause of it? I don’t really wanna do the dog diaper cause she does so well with not going besides the little dribbles every once in a while and she would probably just tear the diaper off.

If anyone has any advice id love to hear it!

Hi and welcome! Your future posts won't need approval so post away. Let me start by saying "Thank you!" for adopting this sweet pup, what a lucky girl to find her way to you. I know if I worked at a humane society I'd want to adopt every dog and cat that comes in!

So, the urine leakage could be totally unrelated to her new Tripawd life. Have you talked to your vet about it? That really is the best place to start, you want to rule out other issues like a urinary tract infection, or a pinched nerve or something like that. Hopefully it's something easy to treat, and very likely is. So start there and let us know what they say OK?

And for now, if you want to contain the urine to a doggy diaper that's fine. You can try different styles to see what she will tolerate, if any. What a wild breed mix, she's probably got tons of energy eh?

Hello and welcome,

I've had two small rear amp Tripawd girls and neither of them had a leaking problem.

My first, TriPug Maggie, did develop incontinence as she got older, 3 years after her amp.  I will share that I could not keep a diaper on her, with only one back leg they just fell off!  If you do end up going the diaper route there are such things as doggie suspenders to help keep diapers on.

Does the leaking happen at random times or is there a trigger like getting really excited?
