Sorry, I know it's been furever since I've posted, but I have a good excuse! Mikey, who was rescued, became a tripawd at 3 months and then came to us, is almost 10 months old now! And he's kept me pretty busy.
He's ALMOST learned not to chew everything in reach, and is the fastest dog I've ever had! He runs and jumps (over the huge holes he digs) in the yard, and has even gotten his wildest dream come true twice, when the foolish 100% inside cat decided he wanted to see what all the fuss was about outside. Sure enough, Mikey can herd the cat. One orange tabby blur, then one Mikey blur! Mikey ran perfectly around the cat to chase it back inside! A big relief for me, since that kitty does NOT know how to manage outside!
Now that it has cooled off in Oklahoma, I have trouble talking Mikey into coming inside! He would be an awesome herding dog, but I think he's pretty happy with us! 😊❤️
We massage his remaining back leg pretty often, usually when we are petting him anyway. He will back up & let us know when he wants a bit more attention.
May night he gets treats with CBD in them, to help with any aches and pains. As a chronic pain patient, I know how getting some rest makes a world of difference!
When he was still healing and adjusting, puzzle games helped SO MUCH to keep him from over-doing. He still enjoys the larger one, but I think the smaller puzzle would be better for a smaller dog. Mikey has trouble getting his muzzle in for the treat!
And there you have it! Please know that I pray for all the Tripawds who are still battling disease. Mikey had to deal with abuse before we got him, but he's put that almost totally behind him. ❤️
Love and gratitude to you all!!
Jo, Mikey's mommy
Mikey, 2/14/16, came to us as a foster the end of June, 2wks after rear left amp. Now, at 6mo, he's doing awesome! Perfect, except for wanting to play with 9yo kitty Pumpkin, who isn't interested. At all.
Love to all! Jo, Mikey and, reluctantly, Pumpkin.
Wow, it sounds like Mikey is doing fabulous! I can just picture him chasing the cat back into the house! lol Good boy!
We'd love it if you'd share some pictures of that fabulous boy with us We can never get too many pictures around here.

Will do! I just have to figure out how to do it from an iPhone!! I've got a wonderful vid of him playing, but you have to turn the sound down or my laugh will give you a headache! 😳

I'm so glad you posted! I think about you guys often, I'm so glad the adoption worked out.
My little rear amp Elly will be 2 at the end of the month, a tripawd since she was 7 months old. We still play games every day and are now taking a 'Tricks' class so we working on some new commands.
Elly would love to join Mikey herding the cat...Elly thinks all cats need to be barked at and chased. We don't have any but there are quite a few in the neighborhood, she knows where they live and she is always looking for them on our walks. She would most likely get the snot beat out of her if she ever got close to a cat
I hope you can drop by more often and keep us updated on Mikey's antics!

KAREN!!! So glad to "see" you!! You were such a huge help & support when we first got started. Thank you again and again!
Mikey still isn't too sure about Pumpkin on a regular basis, but I think herding the cat back in the house has helped him understand that INSIDE is where the cat belongs, and chasing any further isn't needed. At least, we are working on it!
I wish we were around classes if any type. Our town of 800 and shrinking doesn't have much of anything.
I also wish we could go walking with y'all!
It's been raining all day but that puzzle has helped. I still have a stir crazy pup, though. It's been a challenge today, but much better than because he's hurting & doesn't WANT to move.
Oh! And you should see him digging! Sometimes he switches to digging with his remaining back leg! There should be a tripawd Olympics!

I've enjoyed reading about Mikey and his adventures as a cat wrangler and hole digger. He's really enjoying life and it's clear he has found the home he deserves. Perhaps Mikey needs his own kitten for a buddy since Pumpkin isn't so interested.
Scratches for all,
