I know there have been several post on strengthening the existing leg however it isn't going easy with Ariel.

In her remaining rear leg her growth plate in her knee is damaged and she has arthritis in her knee. I know for sure that previous owners did not care for her after her amputation 5 years ago and the past year since I have had her she endurance has improved and her mobility. We go on 2 10-15min walks a day in the park across from our house.

I have ordered the balance mat from FitPaws however I need some help getting her use to it, she is not very receptive at all. I have a Help-em-up harness already and even with the harness she just goes into lock down mode.

Has any one else had this problem? and if so what did you to help get the dog confident and comfortable?

Thank you so much for ordering the Balance Pad, that is a perfect place to start strengthening her core muscles...remember it's about those core muscles that will get stronger and support her leg, but it takes time.

That's so cool she goes on those walks. On days that she does the Balance Pad (start with just twice a week or so), you may want to cut those walks back to 1/2 the time you normally go out. She may be too tired.

Tell us how you have introduced the mat. Are you using treats? Are you following the instructions from FitPAWS ' DVD that was included in your package? Have you seen this?

RACHEL AND ARIEL!!!!!!! OMD!!! It is just wonderful to hear from you!!!clap

I don't have specific advice....I'm just happy to see your post!!!

For those who don't know, Ariel and Rachael started the ball rolling for the WONDERFUL Virginia Tripawd Pawty.! This team is unbelievably strong and determined, and sooooo devoted to each other!!!

Please, please, go back and look at Ariel's first post. This dog is a miracle dog...and Rachel is a Miracle Worker!!

This dog was an amputee who could barely walk at all due to years of neglect, as well as damage to her spine and remaining legs. But this dog found Rachel, her Earth Angel! Rachel has turned her into a dog who could barely walk at all without dragging her rear completely on the ground. If you can, go back and ook at the videos under the Va. Tripawd Pawty. Yeah, she walks with a curved back and her rear is sorta low to the ground.....SHE RUNS, SHE PLAYS, SHE TUSSLED WITH THAT CRAZY TANNER....she is one of THE most amazing dogs you could ever meet!!!! She is as sweet as they come...as is her mom!!!!!

Please post some pictures while you are waiting for feedback on how to use that thing. She is just beautiful...inside and out!

Sending hugs and love...and a whole lot of applause!!!

Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Yes Rachel, you are an earth angel to Ariel! The fact that she is walking is pretty amazing. Let us know how her training going! I have been thinking about getting a fit paws for Zach but I'm not sure which one is the best .

I think using treats is a smart way to go in terms of motivation and continue to give her lots of love and encouragement! As I ow you are doing!

Sally thanks for the Kudos! Ariel is doing good and she is STUBBORN! I have been using one of her favorite treat, Carrots. She is still very unsure of the balance mat. Thanks for the balance mat video Jerry! I had not seen that video, I will be using some of those exercises.

Ohhhh yeay I'm glad the carrots and the video worked. Your Balance Pad should have come with one, I'm sorry it didn't. We would love to see how the workout routine is coming along, maybe you can make a video of your own?
