Daryl, for some odd reason, likes to sleep in our walk in closet during the day. He has a bed in there, but does not always use it. Twice in the last few months, I have come home to see his Id, Rabies tag and license on the floor and a snag in carpet holding the ring that attaches them to his collar. Breaks my heart to think he may have struggled awhile to get free. Does anyone have suggestions on another way to attach them? I saw a pocket thing online, but , it has a zipper, so I am afraid the same thing will happen. I am assuming because he always lays on his amp side, his neck lays against carpet and it gets tight. Then, he does not have 2 front legs to get loose. I don't want him going without tags, as he goes a lot of places with the Hubby and I am afraid of him getting lost. Does anyone know of a collar that you slide them into etc. I looked online, but have not seen much. Am I I the only one who has encountered this problem?Maybe , I will invent one. Hmmmmm! TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
My silly first thought is to remove the carpet, or cover it.
What I've done with the pugs is to zip tie (or cable tie) the tags together so they don't jingle, you could tie them to the collar. Also, if you are using the rings that come with the tags you might switch to a split ring like are usually on key rings.
And if that doesn't work you can put a small bag over the tags and ring and tie it to the D-ring on the collar. Here is one I found on line: Pet Tag Silencer. The point is to quiet the tags, but the bag goes over the tag ring.
Hope this helps,
Karen

Awww...saeet, sweet Daryl. Love that he feels comfy and safe in the closet. And love how much you care so deeply for this sweet boy. Shudder to think what his lofe would have been like with anyone else. Plus, he would never have been able to attend a tripawd pawty!
Anyway, only thing I can think of are those "chain things"...you know, the kind of chains that they used to hang tags onto for soilders. Actually, I think they called em dog tags. Anyway, they make the shorter version. Darn...just can't think what the chain is called. They wouldn't catch on anything. Don't know if the chain would be small enough to fit through the tags though.
Perhaps using some really, really strong fishing line or something like that?
And on a personal note about your human, let us know how hubby is doing, okay?
LOVE!

Lori- check out the Quiet Spot dog tag silencer or something like this. You could use a little pouch like that for the rabies tag, and if you want to keep his name and your contact info visible, I've seen collars with nameplates that lay flat against the collar (like this, but there are lots of styles elsewhere too, especially at hunting supply stores).
My dogs don't wear collars in the house but i use a carabiner clip to clip them to the collar when we go places. I put the tags on the rings that come with the tags then slide those onto the carabiner and when going somewhere they are on there and if they don't need the tags (if just at home) then they hang by the door.

The Pet Tag Silencer is pawesome, we used to use one on Jerry's collar all the time. Wyatt could use one now that I think about it. You could also just get different style of ring to attach the tags. There is one that looks like an upside-down U, with a bar running through the bottom of it. You slide the bar out, attach the tags and put the bar back in. They're in hardware stores, can't think of what they're called. Our friends the Oaktown Pack use them on their dog collars, maybe they'll chime in.

Rene,
Are you talking about a shackle? You can get them at Amazon, but of course go through the site!

Thank you all! I knew I would find answers here! Funny, the closet is the only place on my main floor that has carpet. Maybe that is why he likes it. He likes to go in under our clothes that are hanging and rest. Not sure why, but he likes it and who am I to change it. I was using a split ring. The last one was pretty thick and he managed to pull it almost straight. To Amazon I go! Sally, hubby is doing some better. He was actually readmitted to hospital this weekend for a blood colt from the Picc line he had for the infection they were treating. Blood clots have taken both his Mom and brother, so we were pretty nervous. So far, they just have him on 2 blood thinners. He is a bit annoyed that I am following him around everyplace. LOL hey, someone has to make him behave. Lori, TY and the Gang

Oh gosh! I guess you are following hubby around! So glad they recognized the clot and did what was necessry to dissolve it. You know we are all fans of his since he insisted you go to the Tripawds Paty! Yeah, we're all fans...of both of you!!
Love to all!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
PS...I'm pretty sure a bowl of ice cream before bed every night is a helps to thin the blood " naturally"
