I dug around a big and didn't see this talked about -sorry if its on an older thread somewhere.

We have a 60lb Bernese who has had her rear left leg amputated (osteo - seems so far to have captured it all - its been 9 months and she's healthy!).

The vet taught us to put our arms under her belly in the back and rib cage in the front - sort like a human fork lift,  but she dislikes this greatly and tries to jump away. We have a modified version with an arm across her chest and through her front legs from the front to stop the jumping but she still dislikes the arm under the belly (as would I!).

We've also tried an arm around the chest and an arm around the rear - which squashes her up into a C shape (not as bad as the belly grunting but still not her fave) and my poor husband ended up with a thumb up her rear end once when she squirmed!

Any tips on picking up larger tripods out there? We clearly aren't finding it on our own! This is really her only maladaptation to losing the leg - mostly because she wants to still jump up on her own and dislikes being manhandled. She's sure she can do it but we want to preserve the back leg she's got left by reducing the springing and landing behaviors.

Thanks much!

I dug around a big...

Did you search all blogs here , or search the Tripawds Gear blog ?

Here are a couple products that may help:

Otto Step Safe Pet Step for SUVs and Trucks

Pet Loader Car Steps Help Tripawds Go For Rides

For lifting your pup, you might consider the AT Get A Grip Harness. She may surprise you though! The Ruffwear Webmaster Harness works great for assisting dogs into cars, we use one with Wyatt and have a large truck.

Best wishes and thanks for asking! Your future forum posts will not require moderation.
