Really informative post. Thanks Rocky!!
Sounds like your Therapist was on top of the laser "possible" issues and provided treatment accordingly.
As far as worrying about the stupid piece of crap disease going from one limb to the other, it's my novice understanding that it rarely goes to another limb. Guess I'm trying to say that IF..IF..microscopic cells were hanging out, they wouldn't be in the area of his rear legs so try to worry about his previous laser treatment.
It sounds like he doesn't really need the laser anyway because he's doing so well:-) Keep on rockin' Rocky!!!
PICTURES!! We need pictures of that cutie pie! 🙂
Hugs!

Yup, I need to upload some photos and post them in his thread in the Share Your Story forum. He's getting groomed next week too, which means more pictures.Â
I'm leaning toward skipping the laser therapy the next time just to be safe.Â

I shouldn't bump this back up. I really shouldn't. But I'm in that stage where I'm looking back at everything I did and wondering what, if anything, I did wrong.Â
The laser therapy keeps jumping out at me. He had been doing great. He had the laser therapy on April 25th. It was just the one session. But a little less than two months later, his cancer got aggressive and started spreading. I'll never know if the laser therapy riled it up or not.Â
They stayed away from the amputation site, but of course tumors wound up forming along his side and, ultimately, it was one his back leg that got him.Â
It's not fair to think about. And I'll never know for sure. But if I could do it over, I'd definitely skip the laser therapy.Â

Yeah, being humans we feel like "if onlu we had done so and so...or not done sos snd so" then this wouldn't have happened. We need that sense of crontrol that is so specific to humans. Reality is, when it comes to this piece of crap diseae,it is brutal and still illusive as far as real cause and real cure.
For whatever it's worth, we all do exactly what you are doing though. We look for reasons as ro why we "caused" this. We look for reasons of what we did "wrong" because our dogs didn't get more time. Such a waste of our energy!!! And the brutal truth, even IF we did find "somethi g" to blame ourselves for...IT WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING.''So again, a complee and total waste of our energy. But when we are griefi g, our emotions are raw and our logic is too weak to come to the forefrw as we mourn. At some point thougw, the switch is made and we start focusing on what matters....we did everything possible for our dogs......and we did far more than many humans do for their pets
Diet, vaccines, genetics, neuter/spay...do it, don't do it.....only after a year, or only sfter two, ..eat grain free , eating grain free doesn't matter And on and on and on!  Truth is, we have very, very few answers.
Even though going from one limb to the other is "rare", we sure seem to see it more frequently here. And for whatever its worth I CANNOT RECALL ANYONE WHO HAD USED LASER right off the top of my head.
Okay our friend, take care of yourself and try and get some rest. I know this nightmare you're in feels like it will last forver, but we promise you it does not!! EOCKY NEEDS TO KNOW THAT, SLOWLY BUT SURELY YOUR TIMES TOGETHER WILL MAKE YOU SMILE. He wants so badly for you to know, that he knows, YOU DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE FOR HIM...AND DID NOTHING BAD TO HIM!!  You gave him extra quality time with you and that's the perfect gift in his world!
Lots of love

Oh, I know you're right. I keep trying to remind myself that even if the laser therapy had something to with it - and it's just an "if" - that doesn't change the fact the cancer was already there. All of the blame goes to the cancer.Â
I do wonder if we might have gotten one more Christmas, one more Thanksgiving together, but again that's just an "if" that I can never answer.Â
I was telling the counselor everything we had been through, all the vets we had seen, etc., and she stopped me and said "Wow, you REALLY did love him." That's what I need to remember.Â

Remembering that will become easier for you as time goes on.  Â
Through the losses of pets and people in my life I think there is always a time in the grieving process where the 'what ifs?' come to mind. In the depth of grief it is so hard for us to remember that we can never know what would have happened if we had chosen or been sent down a different path.

Absolutely. I really can't imagine loving anyone - dog, human or otherwise - more than I loved him. Impossible.Â
