My vet brought up an intresting point today. He said he was wondering if he would ever learn to pee like a boy or would always squat. As munchkin is only 6 months he had not started to go like a boy yet. Anyone else have experience with this?
I know it's an odd question, but Doc has me curious. And I know munchkin wants to know.

Duke is about 6 years old and he does both. If there is a convenient object, he hikes his leg, if not he squats.

Oh, interesting. No experience on whether an amputation would impede a boy pup from learning to lift his leg, but I my last tripawd, Yoda, also still lifted his leg after amputation for most pees. In fact, he lifted either leg. Though I think there are some font-leg boy dogs who have never gone back to lifting their leg (or I just missed the update) or only lift the easier one.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

It seems that someone had a front leg amp that learned to lift the leg again, I dont remember who it was. Cooper never went back to lifting his leg, his size probably playing a large part in that.

the monkeydogs only THINK they have invaded the tripawd state
I never lifted my leg a whole lot to begin with, so as a front leg Tripawd peeing like a gurl just came naturally to me. Wyatt Ray , a rear legger, doesn't lift a leg of course!

Gerry (rear leg amputee) still tries to lift his leg. He'll stretch it back as far as he can and twist to get more height on his stream. Not every time, but often.

Dante had his amputation (front legger) at 8 weeks and he is now 16 months and has never attempted to lift his leg.
I know girl dogs will sometimes start lifting a leg if they're around boy dogs a lot, as a learned behavior. It could work the other way around, too. We have two female dogs - Maybe if he were around more male dogs he would at least attempt it?
Sammy finds bushes he can lean on and then lift his leg. If there isn't one, he pees like a girl pup.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Funny coincidence -
Yesterday I witnessed that our new neighbor dog (four legged) raises both back legs up, standing on only his or her front paws in order to pee on trees. Appears to pee that way every single time. Maybe he can teach Gerry.
