So this past week the temperature has definitely risen here in NJ. It actually hit 96 in the sun today! While it's so nice to be done with this winter, I've noticed Mav's pads are taking a hit. His front leg has one spot that looks a little sore so I'll keep an eye on it this week to make sure it doesn't open up. I've tried socks in the past but they don't last long, kind of like putting socks on a toddler, lol! I may try boots later this summer if I can't find another solution.
In the meantime, any suggestions for paw wax? There are several out there that have good reviews but I've never used one myself. I've heard they tend to leave a residue on the floors after using. Suggestions?

Hi Mandy. 96? YIKES!! We got to about 75 inland CT today and I was complaining! I've used Musher's Wax and Excel 8-in-1 Wax. Both did pretty well, although I've used them more in extreme cold than in the heat. I think they both recommend wiping the paws before coming inside (so that's your answer about residue!).
Good luck keeping that handsome boy cool and comfy!

I use Musher's Secret on my dog's paws in the winter. I never notice any residue on my floors, just that he slips on the linoleum until the wax wears off. I've never heard of using it in the summer or the heat.
Best wishes from an Upstate NYer who's heart is stuck in NJ!
Right rear leg amp due to injury from unknown cause (but don't tell her she's missing her spare...yes HER!)

Wow that's hot!
We've talked about Musher's Secret here, it gets good reviews from some and not so good from others. We used it and liked it but haven't tried it in a house with hardwood floors. Some people say it's too slippery inside. There are many different natural paw conditioning solutions made from natural shea butter, I'll do some research and post them in the Gear blog . Meanwhile have you tried Pawz booties yet? They're very lightweight and a good way to find out if Maverick will even wear boots before investing in them.

I had good luck with Musher's Secret on Tri-pug Maggie's paws. We don't get snow where I live so I didn't buy it for that. I found that routine use kept Mag's paw pads supple and she was less likely to slip. When her paw pads were dry she would slip more and they tended to crack. No way in the world would Mag tolerate anything on her feet like socks or booties. It is a little greasy so I found a little goes a long way, and you have to rub it in really well otherwise you do tend to make traction worse instead of better.
I've been experimenting with Pawz Booties for my quad pug Tani who has mobility issues and has real problems with traction . She tolerates them well, and for traction in the house they work great. Haven't tried them outside yet.

Thanks for the info, guys! I'm not sure if it's due to Mav's age but his paws seem to be extra sensitive to the temperature and normal wear and tear of tripawd life. I'll have to give the pawz boots a try and see how it goes. It's such a shame I couldn't get a picture, I'll have to try again later; Mav LOVES the water hose! At least it'll be easy to keep him cool in the backyard. I may have to get a sprinkler for him, lol
