Hello Beautiful people! My name is Daniela and my precious Romeo, a 5 year old cocker spaniel, became a tripawd last friday due to osteosarcoma. Even though there were no traces of metastasis we all know those $%$&%$ cancer cells might be messing around his body so I want to fight them as much as possible.
I was wondering if there are some of you in here who have win this battle or are winning this battle if you could share what treatments did you used? Romeo and I would be absolutely grateful for that.
Hugs,
Daniela and Romeo

Hi Daniela and Romeo
I have to say one of my cats (he lives with my daughter) is called Romeo so, hey ! we've got a wonderful connection already !
I am really sorry your Romeo has osteosarcoma but you are now part of the tripawds family and we will do our best to guide you through your journey.
My girl Eurydice is a Great Dane who lost her right front leg to osteosarcoma 5 1/2 months ago.
She did 6 sessions of carboplatin every 3 weeks (first one when stitches were removed) and had zero side effects, all she took was 1 nausea pill (Cerenia) the morning of her chemo and then 1 pill a day for 3 days after each treatment.
This initial chemo targets fast splitting cells and aims to destroy as many cancerous cells as possible.
3 weeks after her last session was over we started metronomic therapy and she has started her treatment 3 weeks ago.
This is a long term treatment which involves chemo, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory given orally on a daily basis.
This treatment aims to starve the blood supply to tumours which develop in blood vessels feeding off blood.
If the blood supply is cut, the tumours cannot grow or grow at a lower pace.
When one does this treatment our baby's blood and urine must be monitored very regularly as one of the problems that may arise is hemorrhagic cystitis which can be serious.
Nevertheless, by monitoring blood and urine we can identify any nasties before they can do damage and then the oncologist may either change the dosage or stop it.
I, like you, decided to fight this crap disease using all available weapons but I am very aware there are absolutely no guarantees whether one does chemo or not.
It is just that for me, personally, I do want to try anything and everything (within reason) that might slow down and destroy as much of this damn cancer as possible.
You will hearing from others soon so stay connected, we are all by your side!
Which part of the world are you living in?
Sending you a big hug and cuddles to Romeo, he is a really gorgeous boy

Hi Daniela, I answered you in a different thread, hope you see it - I don't want to re-type it all lol.
Paula and Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Hi Daniela ~
My Murphy had a different type of bone cancer - he had histiocytic sarcoma. He had his right front leg removed 4/4/13. The lymph node they removed near it was also positive. This tends to be an aggressive cancer that attacks the liver or spleen more often than the bone. We chose to do chemo, so he received 6 doses of CCNU, which is an oral chemo. The only other thing we did was change to a grain-free diet. Although we are not perfect about that. We free-feed our other dogs, so Murphy sometimes gets caught stealing food from their bowl! At this point what can we do but laugh at him. Last month he had x-rays done and his lungs are still clear.
