Hello,
This site is great. Over 2 years, we had our awesome Weimaraner Oliver's rear right leg removed due soft tissue sarcoma. He is amazing, no regrets after seeing him run, swim and play just as he did on 4 limbs.
Recently, he does not really want to do those things as much? He seems sore? Perhaps he pulled something? This has been about 5 days now.
Of course I fear the worst, as I will never forget the growing lump I discovered resulting in the amputation.
I did notice that his remaining rear leg very muscular, no of course I get that the muscle is due to one leg doing the work of two, but it looks huge. I could have been like this for a while, and I just noticing now.
My fear … the cancer has came back and it is in the muscle area? How big should the remaining rear leg get?
Thanks!
Bryan

As big as the muscle needs to grow to compensate for the added weight. But keep in mind, walking and running do not build strength, only stamina. Oliver may have overdone it if he's not getting proper core muscle-building and strengthening exercises. We cover this subject in great detail with lots of professional tips and how to videos in Loving Life On Three Legs, now available in the Tripawds e-books library.
We are not vets, so please consult yours with any serious concerns. We highly recommend seeing a certified rehab vet if you have not already done so.
Welcome, and thank you for asking. Your future forum posts will not require moderation.
PS: We've helped Wyatt build up his leg muscle strength using FitPAWS gear, but there are all sorts of exercises you can do without any equipment.
