I didn't want to hijack Chops' thread, but did want to tell about Murphy.
We have been on a trip to eastern Washington in our travel trailer. The day before yesterday (which was the day before the one year anniversary of Murphy's accident) we were out doing touristy things. The dog were in the back seat of the pickup, going along for a ride. When we got back to the trailer, we let them down the ramp. As Murphy was coming out, his rear leg sort of collapsed under him. We pulled up on the harness, which he always wear on the ramp, and hef hopped around on the way to the trailer. Went potty, but the leg just didn't seem right. It was terribly reminiscent of how he acted before the THR when his hip would go. We got on the phone to his surgeon and he told me to give him a Tramadol and a Rimidyl. Murphy kept looking back at his leg like he couldn't figure out why it felt like that.
We were to call back to the doc in the morning first thing, and if he wasn't any better, we would make the LONG trip to Sun Valley. There was a bit of concern about whether it might be his knee. Dr Acker was pretty sure that the hip was solid, and there wasn't any sign of pain there or of the bone sticking out the wrong way.
By morning, Murphy was back to his old self. He hasn't shown any sign of weakness in the leg since then. We rescheduled our vet appointment for Saturday, and will have a checkup then. We really wanted to have a one year check anyway, and have been super sensitive about everything he does with the anniversary date here.
This morning, he just couldn't help but scaring his Dad once again, though. They were out for the final morning potty run of our trip, when Murphy did the stop, drop and roll maneuver. The drop part was about enouh to give Dad heart failure!
There has been so much going on here in the past couple of days that I hesitated to say anything, especially since things turned out well. But when I saw the post about Chops, I thought I would share this. We also felt that Murphy's leg had gone to sleep since he was in one place in the back seat for a couple of hours.
Kathi and Murphy who are headed home today
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Wheeeeeeeew! Murphy, stop scaring us! Just because you didnt have access to your bean patch recently is no reason to throw a "leg temper tantrum"!
Any "normal" dog is allowed to have a little "twitch" in their step every now and then, but you're not "normal"........and I mean that in THE most complimentary way! Murphy just wouldn't be Murphy if he acted "normal" BORING!!
Kathi, good news is always welcomed and needed anytime! This journey can take you into the deepest, saddest despair i stantly. And we need good news to help pull usout of the abyss so we can continue to be strong for others. Seems impossible sometimes though.
Can't wait to see more pics!
Love and hugs!

Hi Kathi
Glad the news is better today!
Your post reminds us that even when things are going great....that we have to be mindful of the extra stress being a tripawd places on the remaining limbs of our furry family members.
Congrats to Murphy and you on your almost one year ampuversary!
Safe travel

Oh Murphy please don't scare us like that! I hope you're feeling better.
By any chance did you get to go to Walla Wall to enjoy some Three Legged Red at Dunham Cellars? We love that area!
Kathi never hesitate to share your latest news, whether good or bad, we are here for you.

We are so happy to have the forums back. Thank you soooo. very much.
Murphy had a visit with Dr Acker on Saturday, and got a good report. His knee is solid and the hip is doing well. Whatever caused him to scare us last week apparently isn't something likely to be a problem. The doc thought he might have had a sticker or stepped on a pebble. There was also the possibility of the leg falling asleep when he was in one place so long.
He will go back again in February for the one year check after the THR.
He gave them the full Turbotail experience, which is something they haven't been able to see before. That tail is positively lethal. I don't know how he manages not to break it, he wags so hard and bangs into anything around him. I'll try to post a video here. Turn up the sound. Notice how he looks behind him to see the slipper (that he put there himself) before he hops backward over it.

Thanks! I had done it before, but that was on the PC. I guess I wasn't too sure about posting them from the iPad. Thanks for fixing them for me.

I forgot to add that we didn't get over to Walla Walla on this trip, but we can get Three Legged Red at the Co-op in Boise. That is what Murphy gave his doctor as a thank you when he was released from leash confinement in May. For Christmas he is getting a Tripawds calendar.
