wow, you both look amazing!! congrats on a job well done!!!
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Thanks!!
You know, I have Dr. Waldman to THANK for kicking me in the butt in working on sit/stand reps. on Maggie's FitPaws cushions! It has REALLY done wonders for her sitting capabilities now! Thank you, "Admin", for having that LiveChat! I've been real diligent in doing her PT work every other day and I am amazed how much stronger she is now!

I love Maggie! I want a Maggie!
Tracy, forgive me for being missing it if you have posted it but how or where did you get her?
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Thanks CometDog!
Maggie is a one-of-a-kind dog!!! "Designer breed" if you will .....aka MIXED up MUTT 😉 We think she has GSD and Border Collie in her and maybe some Husky - the GSD part is not a bad guess cause her Mom was a GSD but don't know her father. I've had her since a pup...from the shelter via my sister when the shelter brought Maggie into the animal hospital where she worked. Maggie had an umbilical hernia as a pup and the shelter wasn't sure anyone would want to adopt her! Boys, were they wrong! When I saw her(and keep in mind, I wasn't even a dog person...I had horses all my life!)...I fell in LOVE with her! And have been in love with her ever since 😉
I'd LOVE to have another one just like her (well, minus the tiny issue of her having cancer and missing a leg)...

Hey Wyatt!
I'd show it to ya' if I still had it! Mine was fixed when I got spayed as a youngster....it was like an "outy" belly button my Auntie Gina told me and she fixed me right up when I got spayed!

Way to go Maggie and Tracy!! You both make such a pawesome team! I can see why, Tracy, you'd be so proud of your Designer Breed puppy - she is simply amazing!! Really enjoy your videos!
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
That's great! That explains the ears! I'm so glad she made you a dog person.
I love mix mutts. I don't know that I would have any other kind. But I admit that there are some mixes that you want to keep making. Maggie is one of them.
I got my brother a chow and black lab mix out of shelter years ago. She looked just like a black german shepherd except her tail was turned up and fluffy. She was a gentle giant and so regal. The most beautiful dog ever. The shelter employee tried to talk me out of even getting her out of the cage because she was 100+lbs and she was 1/2 chow. The lab made her playful and easy going while the chow made her protective and subdued. She was special. He never got over her death and never got another one.

Drats!
Well I guess I had some low budget vet or something because mine wasn't removed when I was in the hospital for my amp. Oh well, now I got something really neat to show off.
But it still can't beat your incredible rally talents!

Why is it when I watch the Maggie videos I always end up with tears in my eyes....she is magnificent and will you please come here and train Magic? and any subsequent canines that should come here to live??? I am just amazed at what she does....I'm not quite sure how that course works? Do they have commands written on the cards that you do when you get there? And does Maggie work off verbal/hand or some other psychic connection?!?!?!?!
Are you sure she has no Akita in her? Her coat color and general appearance looks almost identical to an Akita that used to live next to my mom....she isn't as heavy as he was but I was just wondering if that could be part of her mystery side...
Thank you for sharing...All of our dogs do so well, but there are some that just stand out...Maggie is one of those
Thank you all for the compliments for both Maggie and I! Yup...Maggie crossed me over to the 'darkside' of dogs! Can you imagine, I used to say(and don't whip me for this!) that dogs were STUPID! Ha! Boys, was I ever wrong on that one! Silly horse person that I was!
No, I don't know that Maggie doesn't have Akita in her. Although the only real thing like an Akita for her is her coat pattern. Her temperament doesn't seem to fit Akita...GSD for SURE...Husky I THINK(that contrary side of her at times 😉 Border Collie at times for her hard eyes and stalking at times. But of course, this is purely all a guess other than the GSD as her mother was one. We do know she comes from an area that have alot of unneutered BC's and there are also alot of Huskies around...but no Akita's... but who knows! Only Maggie
Yes, Diane, I am following a numbered course where when I get to a sign, I have Maggie perform what it says. This is Level 1 so it is on leash and the first level signs are pretty basic obedience behaviors. Sit/stay/down/finishes/turns/recalls etc... as you move up the levels, the courses get a tad longer and higher level signs are added in Level 2 and then Level 3. For instance, in Level 2, there are 180 degree pivots out of a sit and in Level 3 there is a Moving Stand Walk Around...for examples. There are also jumps(one) in Level 2 and two jumps in Level 3. My other dog is in Level 3...I really like Level 3 as it's a mix of all three levels.
I'm not sure Maggie will do the longer courses in the next levels though..I may move her to Veterans where the courses are shorter but is off leash and could do signs from all levels BUT only 1/3rd of the course can be sitting signs 🙂 That's a good thing when you're a Veteran and/or a Tripawd!
Funny you ask about hand/verbal cueing. I have to use hand cues with her in addition to verbal now since being a Tripawd especially in the sits. It's like extra information for her that yes, Maggie, you DO have to sit. She also targets my hand(clicker training) so that is how I get her to go in circles for instance...follow the hand...
Training is FUN! At least clicker training is...we all love it in this household!
Sorry for lengthy post

THanks so much for all the info....I could never get the hang of clicker training...I tried it for a specific thing with Magic (he was the only dog I have ever taken to obedience school...I think I learned more than he did), the very thing that raised it's ugly head like 8 years later when he would jump in the truck then try to immediately jump out again!! Of course that got to be magnified after the amp!! then we had lots of issues!
and you just try to get a wd to focus on you (or mainly husky either for that matter) the way Maggie focuses on your face....we didn't do so well with the heel part...he was too busy looking around, checking for something I guess. And Magic has NEVER EVER been food motivated or toy motivated for that matter, and that makes learning some things difficult. He does them because he wants to or you are out of luck. I have been fortunate that mostly he does what I ask!
The two of you are beautiful to watch...thanks again
Oh I know how hard it is for the focus on the human! My other dog, even though in higher levels and more titled in Rally-O, has a much tougher time looking at me doing Rally.(which makes it tougher on me handling her thru the course). Maggie is a natural at it for some reason!
Each dog has their strengths and weaknesses...I just try to strengthen those weaknesses! Tough to do at times...
I am so impressed by Maggie's physical strength these days...I really have to commend Dr. Waldman again...those simple cushion exercises sure have improved Maggie's sitting abilities!
