Ugh... I thought we were doing so great and then Maverick started limping this morning on his right hind leg (same side as his future amp leg). He was a little stiff this morning but was looking better until we went to the park for a short walk. Well, our usual short walk ended up even shorter when it became a very obvious limp. Bless my little Mav, he didn't even cry.

Thank god I have an in with a great vet ;)  lol. So a quick side trip to work and now somebody is on bed rest. We're hoping its just a little inflammation from being a crazy pup with a bum leg but it could also be a luxating patella. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal but with so much extra weight and torque on that leg I'm worried more surgery may be in order.

Thus, the reason for 'ugh!' I have Maverick on some Rimadyl and rest for the next few days and I'm going to schedule another rehab appointment for next week. Send good thoughts our way that we don't need more surgery! I'm going to try posting a couple pictures, let's hope it works :)

MAVERICK!! M.A.V.E.R.I.C.K!!! Your mom forgot to give us the "cuteness alert"! YOU ARE A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E!!!
OMD! He is soooooop cute! Can we comeover and cuddle him?

Mandy, he's just over done it a touch. Really, I'm pretty sure that's all it is and bed rest will do wonders. Of course, getting a pupy to take it easy will cause you a little extra stress! Get out a box of chocolate now and take three bites every six hours...or as needed!

And remember, Patrick is watching over you both, okay? He just saw that little Maverick was over doing it, so he had to do so ething to slow him dow. So this is just Patrick's way of making sure Maverick rests up before surgery!

Sendingyou ((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))... a tousand hugs!

GREAT JOB ON POSTING THE PHOTOS!! Still grinning over here!

How could anyone resist that face???  You behave yourself, Maverick...even though it's hard for a puppy to do, and even harder for an Aussie puppy to do.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Your posts always make me smile, Sally!  You're right, we have a big ol' Golden angel watching over us here and he just sent us a little reminder to slow it down. Thankfully, Mav has put himself in quarantine for right now but I'm sure once that puppy nap is done he's going to want to wrestle with big sis, Sage. I have a nice stash of chocolate hidden away in my baking drawer so I will take your orders to heart, lol :)

If you're ever over our way I'm sure Mav would love a nice rehabilitating hug. He was actually trying to con a few of those out of my co-worker's 6 year old daughter today when we stopped by. Hugs from a child fix everything, right?

Trying to get a puppy to do best rest, good luck! He is one cute pup, for sure!

I hope his limp gets better and isn't anything serious. He probably over-did it, like Sally suggested. You'll have to really restrict his exercise after surgery. Barret over did it on like day 2 after recovery (because he is a nut ball) and had a limp on his hind leg, same side as amp for a week or two until it recovered. Massaging it helped, though. You may want to try that.

Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog

I'm hoping he really just over did it too. We tried to feel his knee joint for a 'pop' which would say that it's a luxating patella but he's so strong we couldn't even bend his knee, lol! I guess it's just wait and see.

Bed rest is not going well. It seems I have a barker/howler on my hands when he deems he needs attention. Uh oh, good thing I live in a dog neighborhood! Sally, I am taking the prescribed chocolate on an as needed basis, which seems to be every three hours. I believe Sage would like some doggy ear muffs if this goes on much longer.

Physical therapy is set for Tuesday so Maverick can have a nice massage and stretch to work those muscles before surgery. Both me and and my husband are really hoping Mav will have improved enough by tomorrow so he can go for his puppy star cert. test. He can make the test up if he's not doing well but we've worked so hard we'd like to see him graduate puppy class with his new puppy friends :)

Thanks for the support, all!

He is the cutest!  OMD!!!  I wanna hug him terribly!  Mav is darn cute.

Ugh, bedrest for a puppy?  Good luck.  How about a load of kongs filled with all sorts of things?  Peanut butter.  Freeze them with chic broth.  Heck, get your face cloths or socks, soak them in chiz broth, and freeze.  It's both a nice chew toy for teething puppies as it is for puppies that need to stay put.  Ice cubes!  Make some of your own frozen treats for him.  Jackson loves frozen bananas.  Cut them up and freeze.  Easy-peasy.

Take it easy, Mav.  Heal up quick so that bum front leg can come off.

Keep us posted.

~ Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!
