Joey's injured front leg

Hi guys,

Joey had a little set back this past week and injured his remaining front leg this week. He had the zoomies and was running around out in the backyard. He ran onto the deck and hit a patch of ice and wiped out pretty hard. This resulted in a bump on the outside of his leg. The following after noon him and the other dog in the house got into a little tussle and Joey's leg was bitten. The bite wasn't bad but it was on the very sore spot. He went to the vet today and it all looks like a soft tissue injury but he has quite a bit of swelling. The vet is putting him on a course of 2 different antibiotics to be extra cautious with an anti-inflammatory. He also has to take it easy for the next two weeks. I'm super thankful it is nothing more and that the vet says everything else looks perfect.

Oh my gosh - I know exactly how you are feeling!  My first post here (way back when!), was a few months after Murphy's surgery  ... I had probably responded to some posts in the forums, but my first post that I made was when Murphy slipped on the ice on our deck ...oh, I felt like the absolute worst mom ever!  Ice is a problem for Tripawds, and you are not the first to have this issue. Decks are hard because you can't use salt since that will ruin the wood, plus you don't really want salt in the dog's feet anyways.   Several have recommended getting chicken gravel (I think that's it) from the feed store.  We actually found a non-slip outdoor runner at the Lakeside Collection that worked really well for us last year.

Murphy had his right front leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma at 7 years old. He survived 4 years, 2 months & 1 week, only to be taken by hemangiosarcoma at 11 1/2 years 6/12/17

Poor Joey! The problem here at the moment is mud more than ice, but all tripawrents will recognise this situation, I'm sure. You've had great advice from Donna. Nothing to add other than that I do hope Joey is feeling much better soon.

Hi guys,

Joey has finished all of his antibiotics and his back to his normal self! Also, he is now officially 2 months post-amputation. I find it incredibly hard to believe that it has only been 2 months since surgery and that I have only had him 4 months. He feels like he is an extension of me at this point and I can't even remember how he was different with 4 legs. The vet says he looks perfect! You cant even tell where his incision was. Joey's newest hobby is carrying "blankies" aka towels around the house. He has begun trying to sneak them into his crate and it is pretty funny.
