 Hello!
New member here, but my hubby and I have always been grateful to the tripawd website since we rescued our sweet boy Hector in June 2020 (he was ~11 months old) and had to make the tough decision to amputate is rear left leggo Aug 2020. He was injured somehow before we met him and it was definitely the right decision as he runs around and plays like the best of them- that is until Jan.

In January 2023 we noticed Hector trying not to use his back leg. After a few visits to the vet, turns out the poor guy tore his CCL and has pretty severe hip dysplasia. The vet recommended TPLO surgery to fix the knee, and hope this will help alleviate the hip problems for now.

Hector had the surgery 3/8/23, and boy did we not quite realize what we were in for. We figured we did the amputation surgery no problem- but this one has been tough. I have to say though, just 4 days out he is handling it like a CHAMP! It’s really so inspirational to see how he’s still his normal self, maybe a little bored, but handling the limited mobility. He is already putting some weight on his back leg!

I would love to meet other tripawd parents who have gone through similar with surgery on remaining leg. I have read Petra’s story and was happy to hear the happy ending, though a long road. I hope ours isn’t as long, as we are moving and about to do some major travel with Hector in May! I also hope we don’t have to do THR down the road…hoping this will help give him a mobile, pain free life for many many more years!

this is my long rambling post to see if there are others in a similar situation, and also to share Hector’s story because as his dog mama, well, I’m just so proud of him!

Hi Jesse and Hector, welcome! Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away.

Sorry about the TPLO situation. Yes it is a much tougher recovery than amputation surgery! SO happy he is doing well.

Have you seen our Tripawds with Remaining Limb Surgeries posts? You'll find links to other members who have been through the same situation. Reach out through our private messaging system! Just click on their user name, and you should be able to make your way to their profile from there. Look for the little envelope icon to send them a message. If you have any questions about how to do that let me know, I'm happy to help.
