Hello...my boxer, Stella, had her right hind leg amputated on September 4th. We have the Webmaster harness and while it is working well, and doesn't appear to bother her incision, I am wondering if another harness, one that provides more well-distributed support, would be better. Does anyone have a boxer, or a dog with a chest much larger in circumference than its tummy? If so, what harness have you found works the best? Thank you!
Hi Stella and family, welcome! Your future posts won't need approval so post away.
How is Stella doing otherwise? We hope she's getting around well!
When you say more well-distributed support, I'm wondering if you mean a harness like this, the Get-a-Grip?

Is she having trouble getting around, where she might need more support like this? What's going on?

Hi Jerry...thank you for your response!
Stella is doing really well. She was a bit confused and uncomfortable for the first few days, but slept well last night, pooped this morning, and is sleeping well again!
We have the webmaster harness on her now, and while she seems comfortable in it, we are concerned that the pressure on her belly, near her incision, is hard on her when we help her get around - particularly up and down the stairs.
I've looked at both the Get-A-Grip harness and the Pet Support Suit , and while the Get-A-Grip harness looks like it would be more comfortable for her - especially if we needed to keep it on her most of the time during recovery - I am concerned that it won't fit her as well as the Pet Support Suit will, because the difference between her chest circumference and her belly circumference are so different. I noticed on the site that if those two measurements are markedly different, the Pet Support Suit is a better option, but on the Tripawds site, Wyatt models the harness, and his chest and belly seem to be markedly different circumferences.
I know we will want to purchase one or the other, but I don't want to waste money on a Get-A-Grip harness only to try it on Stella and find that it doesn't fit well. I also don't want to spend $200 for the Pet Support Suit , that might fit well, but is uncomfortable for her to spend any real time in, if need be.
Does this make sense? I am sure that once she's healed up and moving around more confidently, the webmaster harness will be our go-to, but I want her to be as comfortable as possible, regardless.
Thanks so much...and Happy Labor Day!
I'm glad to hear she's doing pretty good! That's terrific pawgress.
The Webmaster was designed for mountaineering dogs that get hoisted a lot, Ruffwear knows their stuff. Honestly, we've never had anyone tell us they were returning a Webmaster because of the issues that are on your mind. That's not to say that these things can't happen, but we've been using them for years on our own doggies, both when they were well and not well, and have never noticed any kind of irritation or pressure on the abdomen.
Wyatt had stomach surgery this year and the Pet Support Suit was a lifesaver. He wore it 24/7 for a couple of weeks until he healed. This harness is much different than the Get-a-Grip, because it just fits so much better since it's made to your dog's unique body measurements. Like Stella, Wyatt is also a deep-chested dog and the Get-a-Grip was tight in the chest area. We had a suit made and we are glad we did. Even though he's still a young dog, he's needed it 2x already and I know when he's a cranky old senior that he'll be wearing it a lot (he has mild hip displaysia). Can you tell I'm a fan? 😉
