Our basset Maya became a tripawd two weeks ago Wednesday. She's doing pretty good getting around on her own. She can get in the car without help but she needs help getting out. Likewise she needs help doing the stairs (3 of them) in and out of the house. Which harness would be best for a basset? She's low to the ground and weighs in at 50 pounds.
Thanks for the input,
Jim

Hi Jim, thanks for joining. Your future posts won't need approval. We think that the Ruffwear Webmaster or the Custom Pet Support Suit are your best bets since they both have support that extends all the way to the hind legs.
Why did Maya lose her leg?

I'm sorry you're coping with cancer. Osteosarcoma? If so, you're in lots of company with folks who have been there and can help answer questions and offer support.

Savor each snd everyday...stay in the prese t...and remember, your pup doesn't give a rip about any ole "diagnosis". She's just getting on with all that loving and spoiling you are sending her way! It's hard NOT to spoil a Bassett Hound! But a tripawd Bassett Hou d!! OMD! Spoiling like crazy!
Hugs to all!

Sorry to hear about Mya's diagnosis. She sure is looking good and I have to say that I'm amazed at how well these tripawds of all shapes and sizes manage so well. Nothing holds them back. I can't help you with a harness, my tripawd Mona is a cat.
Does Mya like small spaces like these bassetts?

Maya and her sister Lilly lay on each other. The two are quite bonded. Jethro, being a male, just as soon sleep by himself.
Here is Maya and Lilly together
Here are the 3 stooges ( left to right: Maya, Lilly and Jethro)
To all tripawds Lilly says "May the force be with you".

Aww, Mona is just adorable. How much does she weigh? In her pic she looks small for a Basset. I have a medium Webmaster harness my Lexie wore that might fit Mona.
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.
AWE.... she's beautiful!!!! I love those eyes!!! I have a soft spot for bassets.... never had one but always loved the breed.
I don't have any advice on a harness as we never needed one but welcome and we are ALL here for you! Much love!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
