Does he have a ruffwear harness ?
I can't be of great help as Eurydice was far too large compared to your baby, so either she managed to jump in and out of my SUV herself or we'd need somebody else and the two of us would lift her as gently as possible to get in and out of the car.
Near the end, I would place a layer of mattresses and foam by the back of the car to decrease hight and then would make sure I'd only park near "gentle hills" so she could just step out.
If possible, you could try this "technique" temporarily until your boy gets stronger and can jump in and out easily on his own?
Sending you and Snoops a huge hug and tons of ear scratches and tummy rubs 😘😘😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹
Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
The best way we have found to help our Wyatt Ray and also our Jerry in and out of our big 4x4 truck is with the Ruffwear Webmaster harness . The handle sits in just the right place on the back so as you help a dog in or out, they don't tilt too far forward or backward.
If you don't have the physical stregnth to assist in this way, a hitch step is a good option too. Requires a bit of training but if you have the Ruffwear Webmaster harness along with the step, Snoopy will catch on quickly.

Murphy was about 50lbs & a front leg, and we used the ruffwear webmaster harness . It made it so easy for me to lift him myself into the car.
