Hello, I am new to the community. My 11 1/2 year-old just had a front leg amputation due to osteosarcoma. I am looking for recommendations on a lift for me to currently help him get up and down as needed and for future a harness. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hi Koopa's mom! Welcome. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.

How is he doing as far as mobility? That kind of determines what things we would recommend. As a senior dog, if his mobility is limited, we recommend the Get-a-Grip Harness, or Custom Pet Support Suit. What's his breed type? If he is traditionally hard to fit with a regular harness, the Suit is our recommendation since it's tailored to his specific measurements.

If he is otherwise pretty mobile, the Flagline Harness is our top recommendation for front leg amputee dogs.

Thank you for the information. He is a mix of a pitbull and a black mouth cur. He’s a medium large size dog. His mobility is still pretty good. He was favoring his leg before the invitation but he seems to be getting around pretty well. He was up in Mobil the day after. Still in some pain from the procedure but it’s only been three days. He still has a lot of activity and liveliness to him and I’m hoping that comes back after I get a harness and get him moving more

Your pup sounds like a fit fella'  and sounds like a handsome fella's too👍

Three days out hr should just being potty breaks and that's pretty much it for the first two weeks.  Once he recovers  from the surgery, his mobility and balance will continue  to improve.  His activity  level can increase after that. Right now sloooow and easy is the pace you want to maintain.

Jerry can advise you further, but you want to make sure if you do need to use a harness  before  the stitches are out, the incision needs to be protected  with soft padding.

He's doing okay overall?  Eating, drinking, pottying, resting fairly comfortably?  What type of pain meds is he on, dose and frequency?

We would, ove to see a picture of your pup. Here's a link for adding images
