You've got it, Jerry !

I am very hopeful she will wear booties without making a fuss, as we don't seem to have any other choice after this (unfinished) infection  !

I will post a little video for sure big-blink and hopefully that will be useful to other pawrents and their horses laughing

Sending you a big hug and cuddles to gorgeous Wyatt heart

Hi Jerry and everybody heart

Here's the update on Eurydice's booties.

I ordered XL booties from Ultra Paws (4") I had measured my girl's front paw width by getting her to stand up on a piece of paper and making a mark each side of the paw, it looked like 4".

Well, booties arrived today but they don't remotely fit, her paw would just about get half way in, if I would force the bootie in all the way paw would be completely squashed inside so no chance of any movement at all.

Also, the full length of the bootie only covers less than 2/3 of the length of her paw ...

Our physiotherapist recommend a US company which has offices in the UK and does custom made booties.

Called them today and they said "custom made" means they can adapt the booties to a dog's specific paw requirements but the biggest size available is in fact 4" and to their knowledge there is no company in the world that does a bigger size.

The lady advised me to look into horse booties and she wasn't kidding!

She says horses wear booties when they have problems with their hooves so I am now onto researching for that.

I really need to find a solution soon, we took a few days to visit Bruges in Belgium and Eurydice's paw pads got really bad from walking on the pavement.

We ended up going to gardens around Bruges rather than visiting the town as it was really hard for her to negotiate the roads.

I am planning to take my girl after her last round of chemo (health permitting) to her last big trip around Europe to say goodbye to all her furry and human friends (we lived in France and Portugal before moving to the UK 2 years ago) so she will definitely need the booties then.

I'll keep you posted on the booties front but if you have any info on horse booties please let me know.

I bet you never thought you had such a request on Tripawds ...

Sending you a big hug and cuddles to your fluffies heart

Quick update.

Horse booties are out.

I called a couple of companies which sell equine products and they say no horse booties would do as the "sole" area (is this the correct name??) is left unprotected and booties are placed around the hoof only.

Apparently when a horse has an injury they bandage the "sole", horse will stay in the stable until fully recovered.

AAAAAAAAAAARGH ugh

I am now calling London zoo out of desperation maybe they can think of something.

Will keep you posted.

Any way you could make the booties yourself?  A piece of heavy leather like material on the bottom, with some sort of fabric sewn on to go around her foot and ankle.  Put in some grommets and use a shoe lace to secure?  They might not last as long as something commercial, but if you make a couple of pair, it might work.  Or, extra wide shoes for a child, perhaps with some side vents cut out?

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Thank you so much Christineheart I might have to do some booties myself, yes, I am just concerned with how that will affect her balance, spine, etc ...

I called the London zoo, they have their own in-house vets and cannot help.

Then, called orthopaedic shoe companies and although they really sympathised with my problem, none of them can adapt children's shoes to fit a dog.

I was given an email address for an orthotics company, let's see if that will do it.

I gotta dash now as Eurydice is having her 5th chemo session today, will text as soon as I have feedback from the orthotics company.

Also, whilst at hospital I will ask them what their views are on a home made shoe vis a vis her balance etc.

We have an appointment with her pyshio tomorrow for hydrotherapy and will ask the same question too.

In the meantime, I am open to ALL creative ideas, anybody with a pet lion with paw problems????

Thank you so much!

Bug hug and cuddles all aroundheart

Like Euridyce is the only Dane in the world who wants to wear shoes????   With all of the other products out there, amazing that there isn't something.

Hi Jerry heart

Yes, I called Thera Paw office today, they were recommended by our physio, but their biggest size is 3.5" ...

I also had Ultra Paw 4" delivered today and it is not remotely big enough ...

Our physio just sent me an email, dog booties are out but she knows a small factory that produces orthopaedic shoes for humans and asked them whether they would be able to make some booties for my dog.

It seems my last hope, short of trying to make some myself like Christine suggested, thing is I am not good at those sort of things ...

I'll keep you all posted, whatever solution I will be able to come up with might help other future pawrents if their dogs are truly gigantic like miss cow hereclown

Thank you so much for your help.

Big hug and cuddles heart

Hi Christineheart

Yes, I am baffled too !

I would have thought some company would cater for gigantic sizes (like for us humans) but believe me I called half the planet to no avail.

It is true her paw is truly enormous but still ... I have really covered the dog department and gave up.

Now, I am left with orthopaedic shoes for humans if they will accept to try to produce booties for my XL girl.

There is definitely a gap in the market for someone who wants to produce items for truly gigantic dogswinker

Big kiss to you and cuddles to Otis and Tessa heart

Did you try cutting the side of the booties?  I cut Julian's just along the inner seam just so that I could get it over his foot and dewclaw.   The bootie then fits okay and I can still use the 2 velcro strips to close it and his dewclaw just hangs out.  They fit okay on the rear feet.  Maybe your girl has really huge feet but this solution worked for me.  Maybe when I get home I will measure his feet...

Hi Pamheart

Well, I did try to get the booties on but they only fit about 2/3 of the length of her paw and are so, so tight that there isn't a hope in hell she could move around wearing them.

When measuring the width, I placed her paw on a piece of paper and marked either side of the paw.

What I did not do, was allow for any extra space for when she would hop.

In any case, it is far too tight ...

Sending you a big hug heart

Well Jerry, Eurydice went for her physio appointment today, hydrotherapy is starting next week.

I told the physio my problem with the booties and as she focused on the size of her paw she went "Woooooa, that's the biggest paw I've ever seen"

She told me as far as her experience is, dog booties don't come in that size so we need to be creative here.

Luckily she knows a seamstress who does occasional specific work for the rehab centre and she says she might be able to come up with something.

I am calling her tomorrow!

Will keep you posted, this surely is a challenge!

Sending you a big hug and cuddles to your boyheart

What about someone who works with leather?  Maybe that would be a better alternative than looking at someone who makes shoes....

Just a thought
