Hello All -
I am looking for any recommendations on either a dog stroller or a yard cart of sorts that will comfortable hold a 80 pound golden retriever. I have been looking on line but the "strollers" don't look like they would hold his weight, even though some say the will. He got his front left leg amputated when he was 5. He's almost 12 1/2 now and would still like to come walking with us, but can't really make it too far. This would be a cart for me or my husband to push him in with us.
Many thanks for any recommendations you have!! Shannon
Hi Shannon and Buddy, welcome! That's so sweet he's been living life on 3 for so long, why did he lose his leg?
We have a ton of stroller recommendations here in the Tripawds Gear Blog.
Hope you don't mind I moved your post here, but since it's more about getting around than senior dog issues I thought it would be helpful for others in their searches. Thanks for joining!

Yes, he was 5 at the time of amputation. We didn't do chemo. He's now pushing 12 1/2. He's really done amazing all these years. We were very active before the amputation and I was worried how he'd do after, but he didn't need me to worry. He got up and walked right out of the vets office the next day. Up until about six months ago, it never slowed him down. We still walked daily, twice a day..most days a mile each time. He still was able to go swimming and most importantly, dig holes. Just caught him digging one a few days ago. Its been very hard the past month watching him really slow down and become unsteady on his feet. We are going to try some acupuncture next week! I am hoping he will like his new cart. It's scheduled to arrive Thursday. I know he wants to walk but its just becoming too much for him.
Wow! So inspiring how Buddy kicked OSA to the curb and down the sewer! You guys have a story to tell!!
My quad pug Tani was always an independent and reckless girl, she always walked while Tri-pug Maggie rode in her chariot. Tani didn't want to have anything to do with the stroller.
After Mag passed quad pug Obie joined the pack, Obie was much younger and needed to walk, but Tani was starting to slow down. I started introducing her to the stroller slowly- just a block or two at a time. I knew that eventually she would need to ride more than walk. She hated the thing! She would bark and try and get out. It took awhile but finally she got used to it, and actually enjoyed it. I could walk Obie at a brisk pace to the park, then let Tani out and let her amble and totter like a 14 year old. Then I could load her up and walk home.
Best of luck getting Buddy used to his new wheels! And we need pictures too.

Which stroller did you end up getting? I just got the Houdabout II stroller for my 60lbs pittie. It's a bike trailer that came with a stroller conversion. The carrier is perfect size but with the wheels I don't think it can fit through my door and not sure about the city sidewalk. Needless to say I'm either going to have to detach and attach the wheels everytime bringing it outside or find something else, but so hard to find for him. The other stroller that was meant to hold 100lbs he could barely get in- it was built for a much smaller and I guess very chubby pet if can hold so much weight but doesn't have the dimensions for them.
I purchased the DoggyRide stroller. Daisy was about 80 lbs. and it fit her just fine. However she would never lay down in it. My girl never did like anything "different" and she was scared of it. Lol. Only drawback for me was pushing 80 lbs. of dog uphill. Here is a pic of Daisy getting ready for her first ride.

MARLA! So good to hear from you! And Biscuit's avatar picture is precious!! Of course, seeing that amazing Daisy in her stroller just melts my heart! I see Daisy's banner quite often. It always makes me smile. She was, and is, so loved by us all.
Hugs!

Hi Karen and Pugs - The stroller is due to arrive tomorrow. We will see how it goes, but I don't think he's going to like it! I'll keep you posted. I am trying to upload some pictures but am having a hard time figuring out how. Not sure if this is going to work! [Image Can Not Be Found]
I ended up getting the Pet Gear Expedition Pet Stroller for cats and dogs up to 150-pounds.
It should be arriving tomorrow! I hope it works because it will probably cost more to return it than I purchased it for!
