I've been having a discussion offline with Alexsei's mom who is considering the use of a Ruffwear harness like mine. Alexsei is a rear leg amputee. Read our comments below and please add any thoughts, experiences or suggestions you may have so we can help others with the same questions ... Thanks!
Do you know about or know anyone who has had experience with the "harnesses" in either of the two links below?
We only know of the people who have sent us emails or commented on Jerry's site. All have had favorable things to say about the Ruffwear Harness. I tend to agree with some that the AST Support harness is heavy and bulky, but I do think it would be great for a heavy geriatric dog.
I have never heard of the "Guardian Gear Lift & Lead 4-In-1 Dog Harness" you sent the link for.
We were just recently contacted by the Bottoms Up Leash folks, but have
never heard of any customer experiences. While this one looks like a great
idea, I don't know how it would stay on a rear leg amputee...
Aleksei's amputation stopped just above the knee. His amputation was the result of a broken tib/fib, which probably occurred when one of my younger dogs, Shuba the Bad, who is 2, playfully ran into him, probably at top speed. Two surgeries to repair the break failed. The best alternative for him was amputation. He is a beautiful boy and my Umbilical Boy.
I looked at the AST harness. Pretty pricey. I'll try the Ruffwear harness
first, maybe with the bottoms up leash for lifting his rear until he gains
strength and coordination. The Guardian Gear Harness looks flimsy and like
it would move around in comparison to the other ones I just looked at.
