Hi everyone, my name is Shantel and our German Shepard Lambeau had his left front leg amputated on April 13. When we were discharged they just said to do 5 mins walks for the first 2 weeks. We are beyond that time now so my question is how should we increase his activity. I know alot will be judgement call but any advice on the best way to will be appreciated. Thanks
Welcome! Wyatt can't wait to see Lambeau.
You will find lots of helpful information about exercise in the News blog and Gear blog . You can check out our CARE videos for starters. The most important thing is to focus on core strengthening, balance work and conditioning to rebuild muscle. FYI: Walks do not build strength, only endurance.
We highly recommend consulting with a certified canine rehab tech (CCRP or CCRT ) to identify any potential problems and develop a regimen you can work on at home.
For many more professional tips, how to videos and details about the type and amount of exercise recommended for keeping Tripawds fit and strong, download Loving Life On Three Legs or the Tripawds e-books Library.
Great question! Do your homework, and Lambeau will do great too!
