I'm not sure if this will make sense, but it seems that since Fawkes' surgery, he's been struggling with how to ask to go outside. Prior to surgery with his extremely painful leg, he would fidget; sit up, lie down, shift, shimmy, sit up, etc. It seems now that he gets himself VERY worked up and stressed. Like he's trapped and has no way to get out.
He's adjusted very well to the amputation actually and he is very mobile. I can't figure out what's going on. I am bringing him to work with me because he has separation issues. He stays in my truck. I go out and potty him two or three times during the day and all seems fine. We go home and then I literally have to drag him off the couch to go outside, but he seems fine. Then I go to bed and that's when it started last night. I did take him out several times in the first 2 hrs after going to bed, but he basically stood and stared at me after peeing a little. I tried encouraging him to move around back and forth in the yard, but nothing. I thought he needed to go #2. I expect that to be difficult given he's not moving much.
Anyone seen something similar? Any suggestions or tips? The staples come out Friday so it's still very new. I'm hoping that things get easier for him once we can start getting out and about more.
Tell us more about what his walk is like to go outside? Are there any obstacles? Slippery floors? Stairs? Are there any neighbor dogs or critters he might have encountered before his surgery?

From our bedroom, the walk outside is maybe 10-15 paces, all carpeted. There is the door jamb step and then a step down from the "deck". I have a ramp here. No neighbor dogs; my yard is fully fenced. The neighbor dog barks a lot if outside, but he's never paid her any mind. From the back yard, she would be the equivalent of looking down from a second story balcony.
I use a sling until he is on the grass.
From our sitting room downstairs, the floors is tile or hardwood. I have runners around and I use a sling until he is on the grass. There is the door jamb step and another step down from the deck. This is to the front yard. It is not fenced, but there are also no dogs.
No encounters before surgery. He was so limited in his movements from the injury for so long, he hasn't been out alone in close to a year and a half.
Just catching up...And right as the solution appears!!! Yeah, codeine and other pain meds will definitely cause constipation!
Have you tried some olive oil or natural pumpkin (not sweetened spicy pie filler)?
Let us know how things go...literally!!

Thanks, Benny!
I forgot about that side effect from codeine. He has so many issues with drugs, I kind of had codeine in the safe zone
I wonder how fast the olive oil might work? I find he doesn't really like pumpkin, so getting him to eat it might be a problem. I want him to have relief as quickly as possible. I have a call to the pharmacist about dosage for a stool softener for him.
Hmmm...not sure on the olive oil as far as "speed". I've seen it recommend here and I know people say it works...how fast though, not sure.
