You go, Grady! Golden retrievers and snow were just made for each other !
Kathi and Murphy (and Gus, the maximum snow dog)
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
He's cuter than all heck in that snow! Go Grady! Nothing stops you!

Snow is so rare here, and he LOVES it. I feel just awful that he can't just go romp as he pleases. He thinks he can, but between the drains and stitches...I just have to be so mean! He did get a new stuffie to make up for it, but he just wants to take his new quacker out for a romp...and then a slobbery nap
AWWW GRADY! Yoj are THE sweetest soul! Just SWWET and Hapoy!
What did the vet say about howit's draining? Did he expect it to take somlong? Is it getting smaller n a daily basis?

I called the vet on Tuesday, knowing that they'd be closed from Wednesday until ???. Since his drain was supposed to be removed Wednesday, they said to leave it in until the snow cleared. There's only been minimal drainage, and it honestly hasn't gotten much, if any smaller. His mood, however, has improved by leaps and bounds, so I do know he feels better. I'm confident we're on the right track here, but I have no idea how they plan to get this THING to drain. It's still hard as a rock...but I did notice a small lump surrounding the base of one drain, so I'm wondering if its either a)clogged on one side and messing with the pressurization and not letting it leak properly or b)it's already healing around the incision where the drains were placed, and the scar/tissue is clamping the end and preventing steady drainage. It's never dull around here!
Well heck it's great that his mood is good despite the Thing. I wonder if it's clogged? Either way you hopefully won't have long to wait to see the vet.

Pesky drain is out!
He's a medical mystery, so we got BOTH vets poking him today. They removed the drain, and then went in with a needle...and the fluid just kept coming. Two 20cc syringes and a 50cc. It seems to be fluid-free now, but a firm lump remains. We think it's just scar tissue. Fairly certain that he just banged himself and when he healed, the fluid just kept filling the empty space. It isn't pretty, but it's not anything to worry about It *may* flatten out on it's own as time goes on, and it *may* fill up and need to be drained again, but for now, he's just bald and happy I was SO hoping that he'd have his coat back this winter, lol! Maybe in time for trout season??
Well that thing IS a mystery! I like their theory though, works for me!
Have you tried any skin and coat supplements for him? That could help bring on the fur.

I'm not familiar with how they work to enhance skin, fur & that sort of thing. I read this book called The Whole Pet Diet: Eight Weeks to Great Health for Dogs and Cats that did a good job convincing me that more Omega 3s would help take care of any skin & coat issues so it seems like a good way to go.
