Recently, my parents' vet in Pennsylvania took in a dog named Wyatt. Wyatt was found by a rescue group called One Dog at a Time. He was found with a spinal injury that has caused him to lose the use of both back legs. He is currently getting treatment and they believe that he may have feeling in his back legs and are working towards rehabilitating him slowly. He is a Great Dane/ Lab mix and his face reminds me so much of Sully. If I didn't have two small children, I'd take him home with me. Because that is not a possibility, I'm trying to help in any way that I can. The One Dog at a Time group has been posting on their facebook page, https://www.fac.....ref=SEARCH, looking for suggestions of mentally and physically stimulating exercises or things they could do for Wyatt while he is immoble. I thought I would start here asking for ideas. I am heading to Pennsylvania to visit family this weekend and thought about maybe dropping off a care package for Wyatt to help lift his spirits while he is literally down, stuck laying most of the time. Any ideas of things I could take to Wyatt or suggestions I could pass along to the Metzger Animal Hospital or One Dog at a Time? Thanks! 🙂
Oh gosh you are so sweet for asking! Wyatt's lucky to have you and such great folks looking after him. Sure we've got lots of tips, here are just a few:

Focusing on the brain and not so much the body is soooo beneficial. Any interactive toys -- not just ones the dog does alone, but ones that require human engagement -- are incredibly helpful.
Also, have them visit our friend at Lessons from a Paralyzed Dog. Lots of great tips there.

For a care package -I don't know about games, but my dog sure would cheer up for some shredded cheese or mini hotdogs! Not only have I (luckily) never had a dog in that type of medical situation, my dog is exceptionally uninterested in games or toys. So, no real useful tips here, just good wishes for Wyatt. I hope he has a smooth recovery and finds a good family!!
So nice of you tompost about Wyatt here. I know he'll thoroughly enjoy his visit with you! I also know Sully will be watching over Wyatt, so that's a plus!
