Hi friends!
Mac's 1 year ampuversary is quickly approaching - April 29!
We stopped doing rechecks, for now, due to the overwhelming cost. He seems to be doing just fine. The folks at 2 hands 4 paws (PT place here in LA) think he might have a bit of arthritis in his remaining front wrist and front elbow, which is more or less to be expected at his age.
Anyway, I am always worried now without the assurance of the chest xrays, and want to try to take preventative steps wherever possible. I was about to order a handful of new supplements and was wondering if this is complete overkill.
He already gets:
1 vial San Shedan Chuanbei Ye 1x per day
1 teaspoon Artemisinin 1x per day
Thinking of adding:
Turkey Tail Capsules (I used to give this to him while he was undergoing chemo)
Power Mushrooms (probably don't need BOTH mushrooms - not sure which is better - both seem to be effective against fighting cancer)
Bovine Colostrum (got the idea from the malamute that lived 3 years with lung mets - can't find link on Tripawds page)
Fish oil capsules
Essiac Tea Capsules (supposedly cancer ridding miracle tea)
Is this going way overboard? I know I should probably just get the damn scans and then I can decide what to do, but I thought I would start here first.
Thanks for reading...
We adopted Mac in June 2014 from the GRCGLAR and he is our little baby boy, despite the fact that he is 11.5! Almost a year of bliss turned into complete devastation when he started limping on his front right leg and it was discovered on April 16, 2015 that he has bone cancer - specifically Osteosarcoma. We were luckily directed to Tripawds by our oncologist, Dr. Avenelle Turner, which changed our lives and guided us through the amputation process.

WOOOHOOO Mac! Oh boy I'm so glad to hear life is good for all of you, this is just so pawesome you're reaching your one year ampuversary. Take THAT cancer!
Supplements are a fine line. You want to do all you can but there comes a point when our dog or cat is just going to be like "Mom! Really? ALL of these?" When we fought cancer with Jerry we decided on the rule of 3...no more at any one time, and we'd give each one 3 months to see if they were making a difference. We figured 3 is the magic number after all, so why not right?
My thoughts are as follows:
We are big believers in mushroom therapy. If you want to restart, why not give K9 Immunity Plus, which has 100% American grown organic mushrooms with fish oil too?
As for Essaic tea...I haven't read enough evidence either anecdotally or clinically for me to be gung ho on it.
When you said Malamute, Reno's story came to mind. Is that who you were thinking of?
Oh and I know nothing about San Shedan Chuanbei Ye. Interesting when I googled it.
Give Mac a smooch from us!

Yeah Mac! That's great! You'll have to have a party and post pictures for us!
(I don't have any input on supplements lol)

Murphy had his right front leg amputated due to histiocytic sarcoma at 7 years old. He survived 4 years, 2 months & 1 week, only to be taken by hemangiosarcoma at 11 1/2 years 6/12/17

Oh! That's a great idea. I love the idea of combining two into one ha ha. Maybe I will just start there.
I decided to make an appt with our local vet for chest xrays for next Friday - gah, wish us luck!
