I am not sure if this is where I need to post this or not. Super Boomer had his back left leg amputated on 2/2/12. I spoke with his vet today about supplements that would help Boomer keep his cartilage and bone strength for his remaining legs.
Dr. Cowan, the surgeon that removed Super Boomers leg, recommended a prescription called Dasuquin for maintenance and health. It contains everything necessary for healthy joints and cartilage. Dr. Cowan explained it is 3rd party tested and he himself can attest to every ingredient being in the supplement.
We are starting Super Boomer on this tonight. For 6 weeks he has to take 3 a day and for maintenance he takes 2 a day. It is pricey but a lot less than loosing your tripawd to a dislocated remaining joint or surgery for an injury to a remaining limb. I hope this helps anyone out there. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Dr. Cowan is an incredible vet who genuinely cares about his patients. He calls to check on them and treats them like they are his own.

Tina and Boomer - Daisy has been taking Dasuquin for a couple years now for her arthritis. You can purchase it thru Amazon. It's actually not a prescription. I used to purchase thru my vet but the 150 count of large tabs was $109 (ouch!). I can get the same large tab 150 count for around $60. Also, you can use the link to Amazon thru Tripawds and it helps support this site.

The vets for the Oaktown Pack also strongly recommend fish oil for joints. We give everyone Dasuquin with MSM and as much salmon oil as they can handle. One member of the pack is sensitive and we have to be careful not to over do it or the pipes get greased and things go through the system too quickly. Every dog is different and you learn how much they can handle. Smokey, the only quadpawd in the pack, had a fragmented coronoid process that required surgery. His surgeon strongly recommended both the Dasuquin and the fish oil, and indicated that the fish oil might be more important that the Dasuquin.

Ahhh so that's what he recommended!
Pretty cool stuff, we've actually written about it before here in our Nutrition blog.
And thanks for the endorsement Marla and Daisy, you can definitely buy it through Tripawds! Even better than searching through Amazon, you can try these links:

I will be buying it through the link on Tripawds from now on because I love to support my favorite therapist in the world! 🙂 Thanks for the input, support and letting me know that it works and where I can get it for less. The vet didn't say anything about the MSM for Boomer. I might have to try that one next time.
You all are so wonderful! Thank you again.
