Keep on eating Rocky...even if you're "picky" about it, that's okay!

Rocky turns his nose up at chicken?  Sgeak?  Hamburger?  Cheeseburger?   Just keep trying anything and everything!

And yes......we NEED our Rocky picture fix!! 🙂

I've been warming up the chicken broth for him. I gave him some with his breakfast this morning and got him to eat his kibble (with Armor Up).

Human food (chicken, steak, hamburgers) haven't been a problem. He's wary of lunch meat since I was hiding pills in it, but most human food he takes without any enticement. I'm still hiding the Palladia in grilled chicken for him.

He does seem to have some diarrhea and he threw up in the yard this morning. He threw up a bunch of rabbit poop last week but had been fine until this morning. If that continues, I'll have to check about cutting back on the Palladia.

Palladia can be spaced out to every third day is there is trouble with diarrhea and sometimes a course of metronidazole will do the trick as well. Glad he's eating! Hope he keeps it up ... that will help him in so many ways! Just like humans, pups need to keep their strength up.

We're cheering for you, Rocky!!!

Can chicken broth cause diarrhea? It really started after the chicken broth. And he had been doing fine on the Palladia. I may have to try to get him to eat without the broth to see if the diarrhea clears up.

Well, if Dr Google is correct, the sodium in the broth can actually cause diarrhea sometimes. It says that a dog should have approximately 250 mg of sodium a day. a cup of can chicken broth can have as much as 950 mg of sodium. Have zero idea if there is any validity to this, but it seems to me that the chicken broth could be the culprit.

Let us know how it goes. Always send in the best to mister Rocky!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know sodium could do that.

I did get him the low sodium version, although I didn't check to see how much is in it. It makes more sense for the Palladia to be the cause, but it started right after I started giving him the broth.

His oncologist recommended giving him some canned pumpkin and also offered to write a prescription for Metronidazole. I'm going to try the pumpkin tonight and also stop the broth for a few days.

Saline laxative - absolutely true! Check the sodium content of the broth - you can switch to stock (boil some bones and skin!) or get the low sodium version. I should have mentioned this sooner, I'm so sorry!!

He was taking the low sodium version, but it still had 570 mg of sodium per cup.

Tuesday night is the last time he's had any chicken broth. I started giving him some canned pumpkin with his kibble Wednesday night. So far no change. I've also given him some grilled chicken and rice the last couple of nights. I'll give it through the weekend then revisit the plan with his oncologist if the diarrhea hasn't cleared up.

Definitely get the rx from the oncologist today, I wouldn't wait or he could be come dehydrated. Also get yourself some edible green clay , it usually does the trick to clear up runny poo.

Good thinking, especially with the weekend coming up. His oncologist is calling in for the Metronidazole.

But ... I came home at lunch to let him out and he had a normal poop out in the yard. First one all week. Woo-hoo!

YaY for solid poopicon_png!!

Pumpkin is good for bulk but too much can cause poopy pants as well. My vet always said to give that occasionally, for whatever that is worth. Cottage cheese is a great vehicle as well ... you can stir some in to the food and even sue a little water to make it more enticing. The lumps in cottage cheese also make it good for hiding pills.

Metronidazole will absolutely help and it's inexpensive. Of course, it's another pill to hide. I am sure someone already asked but, have you tried the pill pockets? I never needed them for Izzy since her piggy self gobbled pills like they were candy. Also, kraft singles are nice and pliable, liverwurst is doggie-delicious and plain greek yogurt usually sparks interest too.

Keep us posted!

I've got a bag of Pill Pockets. They worked great for a few days, now it's hit and miss. He's skeptical I've hidden something in them. Typically, if I leave one in front of him and walk off like I don't care if he eats it or not, he'll eat it.

I've cut way back on the pills/supplements he was getting. Other than the Palladia every M-W-F, we're down to Pepcid and Benadryl, along with the Armor Up. Oh and Dasuquin, although he still takes that as a treat.

I've given him a spoonful of canned pumpkin with his kibble the last few days, but I'll taper that off to see if the diarrhea stays away. I'm not planning on giving him the Metronidazole unless it comes back. But at least I'll have it in reserve.

More solid poop tonight. And he ate his kibble (with Armor Up) without me putting anything in it. The weekend is off to a good start.

Yayyyy!! Maybe he was just having some tummy trouble or wasn't feeling great so wasn't as hungry ... or maybe Izzy finally made her way over to whisper, "Ya gotta eat, kid" in his ear 🙂

It's never a bad thing to have a well stocked medicine cabinet - Lord knows I could open a pharmacy with Izzy's leftovers. Hopefully he'll keep on improving!!
