First time posting....... I have a 10 year old Samoyed and Great Pyrenees mix.  We are on day 8 after front leg amputation.  Day 3-5 was extremely hard for my baby girl.  We are getting stronger each and every day which I'm grateful for.

I have been reading and reading all the forums and all the blogs trying to figure out what the best supplements would be for my girl with cancer.  She was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma, which got into her bone.  I would appreciate any information you can give me about supplements.  Supplements that you feel work and are very good for a canine with cancer.

Thank you, Kiana & Fiona

I hope your girl is feeling better! These seemed pretty good for us, but they were recommended for both arthritis + 3-leg mobility:

Whatever supplements you go with, I always hear that fish/salmon oils are a must ... I'm sure someone has more concrete info than me though 🙂

Good luck!

Hi Kiana & Fiona,

Welcome!  I have also heard that fish oil is very good for dogs fighting cancer.  The one that was recommended to me is Thorne Super EPAVET.  I give Zato an herbal complex called Life Gold - Canine Cancer Support.  You put a certain # of drops on his food.

Has anyone used a  product called  Poly MVA?    I had a friend tell me about it and I was just wondering if anybody has used it and what their thoughts are.

Kiana and Fiona, as you can see we have our favorites in the Tripawds Nutrition blog . However, I strongly recommend working with your oncologist and a vet nutrition / natural medicine expert to come up with a good plan. It's easy to throw lots of money into supplements that may or may not work for her particular cancer and health situation. And it's confusing, which can create a stressful situation at home. Consulting with vet experts who are aligned with how you want to approach treatment will go a long way in your happiness, and your wallet.

Where are you located? Maybe we can help find a good natural medicine vet if that's how you want to approach her treatment.

I second what Jerry said - find a vet who will work with you!  I know at the beginning of our journey, I got all kinds of things trying to throw everything I could at Zato's cancer!  But there wasn't any method to it other than let's try this and oh -something new! - let's try that!

I spoke with some great conventional vets who tried to be supportive but I could tell they had no faith in anything that was not traditional.  So yes, find a good vet open to such things, or even better a homeopathic vet, and see what they recommend.  Right now we're working with Dr. Charles Loops and I think others here like him, too.

Also, in Boulder, Colorodo. ONLY NATURAL PET is a great resource for holostic/,alternative supplements, etc. I called them years ago (from Virginia) and, if I recall correctly, it seems they had a Holistic Vet available for questions...or they referred me to someone...can't quite remeber..

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
