Denali had her 2nd visit with the holistic vet for chiropractic and cancer care. He put her on Traumeel (a natural pain killer) and we're going to try to ween her off of the Tramadol. She is still hopping – today it's been better, but she's been pretty sleepy which is normal after the chiropractic care.
Right now this is what we are currently doing:
MORNING:
2 Traumeels (1 hr before eating) — pain
1 1/2 Tramadol — pain
3 1000mg Fish Oil – inflamation/immune
1 750mg Glucosamine — inflamation/arthritis/hip
3 Power Mushrooms — immune
1 dropper alfalfa/yucca — inflamation
5 min massage
EVENING
2 Traumeels (1 hr before eating) — pain
1 1/2 Tramadol — pain
3 1000mg Fish Oil – inflamation/immune
1 750mg Glucosamine — inflamation/arthritis/hip
3 Power Mushrooms — immune
1 dropper alfalfa/yucca — inflamation
5 min massage
BEFORE I GO TO BED
2 Traumeels 2 Traumeels (after eating) — pain
Right now she goes to her holistic vet every 3 weeks. I'm still on the fence about chemo. I think I might just go with Holistic care, everytime I leave there I'm undecided on what I want to do!! I asked the holistic vet 'if this was your dog, what would you do' and his answer was 'I'm not against chemo, but I would not do chemo for THIS type of cancer. For another type of cancer, I probably would do chemo, but not for this one'.
Denali's been panting but it's been hot and humid and I never paid much attention to her panting before. I'm debating on WHEN I want to do her next chest x-rays.

sounds like you have a great regiment going. although we did opt for chemo, it's not the answer for everyone. you'll do the right thing, you ask good questions and you follow your heart...so don't doubt your choices. the massage is a great idea..although we do acupuncture, i need to be more active with daily massage. thanks for putting a fire under me!!
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.

Like Charon said, sounds like a great regiment for Denali. Thanks for sharing this as it's very helpful to know what holistic supplements are good to include. And like Charon said, chemo isn't for everyone and any decision you do make will be the right one for you and Denali. Best of luck in whatever you decide.
Kami (Mackenzie's mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
This is great info! I hope you don't mind we moved your post to this Nutrition Forum since it seems to go better here.
You are following your instinct and your heart, that's what matters. Nobody walks the same path during the cancer journey, but we are all here to support eachother and learn. Thank you for sharing!
If you don't mind, would you like to put a word in for your holistic vet in our Vet Referrals Forum? Denali's doc sounds great.

Hi,
I have used Traumeel in the past for pain…for both me and the dogs 😉 I have also used Yucca… although never yucca/alfalfa combo. Great that she really feels good after her chiropractic treatment!
I have to say this one thing….if you do do chemo and you're having hard time deciding whether it's the right thing for you and your dog…will you then be sorry and beat yourself up if things don't go well? Know what I'm trying to say? Meaning I guess…you need to be SURE that is what you want to do…and by the sounds of it right now, it's no, you're not ready?
Just be sure in your heart…otherwise, if something happens, you'll be kicking yourself on the 'what if's'…
You are doing GREAT by Denali!

Jerry - we have added Denali's holistic vet to the referral page : http://tripawds.....up/#p38390
I really do like him and I'm hoping with his help, I can give Denali the best quality of life possible - though she's STILL zonked out from her chiropractic care (or else she's just being extremely lazy).

Maggie always zonks right out after chiropractic (and acupuncture) too. I take that as a good sign that she loves that stuff
