Elsa had her surgery to remove her rear right leg due to Osteo 5 days ago. All seems to have gone well and once's she's over the op we're planning for her to have 4 - 6 rounds of chemo (Carboplatin). Her lungs appear to be clear and the Onclologist said that it appears that we caught it quite early but we'll find out more once the pathology report's back.
Meanwhile, i'm concentrating on her diet as that's something we can do immediately and easily. Basically, a home-cooked diet high in good quality protien, veggies and Omega 3 with the removal of carbs and sugars. Got some great help on this from Dr Dressler's book ! I've also purchased some K9 Immunity Plus which i'd like to start giving her straight away but I have a few questions that I wonder if anyone can help me with, please......
- Elsa is a greyhound approx 62lbs in weight. I purchased the 'large sized' K9 Immunity Plus, which the packet says is for dogs over 70lbs. Is it ok to use these for her?
- From what I can see on the packet for the 'Medium' sized dogs, the wafers are the same potency (4000mg each) as in the one for 'Large' sized dogs, so is it just the number of wafers in the packet that is reduced to give a months' supply?
- If all of the above is correct, could anyone give me an idea as to how many I should be giving her, please? Reading other peoples' experiences I did think maybe 6 a day but want to make sure i'm not 'overdosing' her (is that possible with these?)
- Is it ok to spread her daily 'allowance' out over the day and give her one 6 times a day (as treats) or is it best to give 2 together for optimum health benefit?
There's so much information out there that it's very easy to get overwhelmed by it all, isn't it? - i'm hoping that by starting with the diet and K9 Immunity Plus we'll be on the right tracks. Here's hoping!
Is is definitely easy to get overwhelmed. Have you tried emailing K9 Immunity with these questions? I'm not an expert so I would definitely have them help you with the answers, then let us know what you find out OK?

Thank you! - have emailed them and will let you all know what the answers are
Please double check this for yourself, okay? I do remember checking this out for my Happy Hannah (125 lbs. before removal of her big chunky leg).
I could take her all the way up to twelve a day, but after that the doseage was basically ineffective. Yeah, big dogs equal big money when it comes to dosing!
Again, double check for yourself, but this is what I found
K9 Immunity Dosage is 1 capsule for each 10 pounds of your dog’s body weight. I emailed the K9 Immunity people and got a lovely reply form Sandy, which answers all of my queries. Here's her answers:
I was forwarded your inquiry regarding your beloved dog taking the K9 Immunity Plus Chews. Yes you are right, all the chews are the same size and same dosage, just each bag contains either 30 chews, 60 chews and 90 chews.Based on your dogs weight of 62lbs, the dosing is 4 chews per day if she has cancer, and 2 chews per day if she is cancer free or in remission. You can divide the chews though out the day, as long as she gets the 4 chews daily. The only overdosing you would experience if she were to take more chews, is the Omega Fish Oil that is in the chews. If she is getting too much fish oil, then you will notice a loose stool. However with that said, the Manufacturer stands by their dosing so 4 chews is what you should give her.Thank you for your time in this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions or concerns.Sincerely,Sandy
Hi Andrea,Yes if you think it will help others, please share. Again let me know if you have any other questions. To clarify the dosing for all dogs is:dogs under 30 lbs= 2 chews cancer 1 chew for no cancer or remissiondogs 30-70 lbs= 4 chews cancer or 2 chews if no cancer or remissiondogs over 70 lbs= 6 chews cancer or 3 chews if no cancer or remission. The chews are great for owners who have more than 1 dog, because they can give the lower dosage (based on the dog's weight) to their healthy dogs and keep the immune system functioning at its best. It is a wonderful product. All the best to you and your dog.Sandy
Aww thank you! This is super helpful, I'll be sure to share it in the Tripawds Nutrition blog .
