Does anyone have experience with a supplement designed to relax the nervous pup? This is for a senior dog (Jackson's cousin) who's starting to get a little loopy and expresses some nervous behaviors. This would be a daily supplement and not something to administer before fireworks, etc. We're interested in trying something more holistic rather than jumping immediately to a doggie-dementia med. Thanks!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Hi, Katy,
When I adopted Seven and he first came home he was very stressed and anxious. I tried Comfort Zone, a plug in diffuser that has pheromones (http://www.petc.....r-kit.html) and the difference was amazing! It's not specifically for dementia, but it helps with anxiety and nervous and destructive behaviors. Maybe it's worth a try? There aren't any side effects since it's not a pill or supplement.

I was going to suggest the pheromones too I've heard (can't attest first hand though) good things about this:
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. "Like" Jill's facebook page: https://www.fac.....tty?ref=hl Proud member of the WINTER WARRIORS!!!! Her blog can be read at http://jillsjou.....ipawds.com. xoxo
Another source of info.....go to member Agile Cow Dog Maggie.....even though she just lost Maggie, shw was able to give her a great extended senior life with holistic supplements. Her sister, Gina, works at a vet wellness center and they incorporate those therapies. Good luck! Keep us posted!
Love,
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
There's info in our Nutrition & Amazon blogs, search for 'anxiety.' Sorry on my phone or I'd give the links here.

Great ideas! I've passed along all these ideas to my mom. We'll see how they go. It took my mom like 3 months to get Jackson's cousin into a harness. I set her up in it over the weekend. She's living it now, and not a moment too soon. She took a spill on the stairs and thankfully the harness was on to help her up, in a more comfortable fashion. Quad-paws benefit from this community, too!
