I know there are several who feed their furkids EVO, so I thought I would post this notice a local Pet Health Food Store sent out concerning the sale of Natura. Who knows if the quality will stay the same, but I hadn't heard before this they were being sold. (And if you live close to Madison, you can pick up some food on sale!!
)

Thank you Harley. I thought I had mentioned it here before but maybe I spaced on that. We did hear the news and initally reacted with skepticism as well. It was disappointing to hear that they sold out, I have to admit. I just went to Natura's website where this letter from the Prez was posted:

I'm glad to hear that the Prez will stay on, but of course that doesn't guarantee anything. Your pet supply store is right, there are lots of other companies making great, grain-free dog foods now. Superior? I don't know, but if you ever have any doubts about Natura's or competing brands, be sure to check out The Dog Food Advisor to get his unbiased scientific anaylysis of the quality of the food.
It's scary, but even with foods that are supposed to have high quality ingredients, you still can't take anything for granted. The only way to guarantee that your dog's food is safe is to cook it youself. And of course for many, there just isn't the time to do it. So we're forced to continue putting our faith in companies large and small and hope they'll do the right thing.
Thanks for letting us know. We'll be sure to update Spirit Jerry's older posts about Evo whenever we run into them.

We're definitely waiting with baited breath on this one. We tried a number of foods for the pups before settling on one of California Natural's limited ingredient foods, two days before they sold to P&G. We're quite passionate about nutrition and nutrient ratios, and it's one of the very few LID's that has appropriate nutrition for a growing pup. I'm not sure where we'll go from here *IF* they do change their formula's or the food stops agreeing with the puppies stomachs. Dante more than anything needs a well rounded diet to help him grow steady and strong.
Oh geeze, Thank You Harley for posting this. I have both my Nova and Emmy on EVO, but I do not have a lot of confidence in P&G products. So I am going to look into switching. Anyone have any recommendations for a good grain-free kibble? I was feeding Canidae for awhile, I'm going to check out Dogfoodadvisor, but I'm looking for ideas.

Pet store Bad Dog Frida in Madison (http://www.badd.....gfrida.com) also sent out a warning and I've been told the owner is very very good at recommending foods. She was recommended to me recently since it looks like Gerry has developed a sensitive stomach. This news is also really bad since I got a lot of recommendations that California Natural might work for his new stomach issues.
But anyway, I feel I should also mention that both Bad Dog Frida and Tabby & Jack's agreed to display posters for the last Madison Tripawd Pawty - so another yay for them! I'll be dropping by both again to advertise our July 11th party.

Has anyone tried Orijen? We got some samples from the place where I'll be taking Zuzu to puppy classes. It's from Canada (Champion Petfoods), and is grain free . I've been giving some of the kibbles to my girls as treats and they both seem to like it.
Holly has been warm and cold on the Evo kibble - so we were back on Blue Buffalo Wilderness (I think that's what it's called). I'll have to look to see if I can find samples of Wysong to see if Holly might like that one.
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Orijen is amazing. It was too rich for Dante - but Mina did GREAT on it, and so does my beagle. It's a great food. Once Mina is able to safely go on Adult food, she's switching back with Coda. Maybe by then Dante's sensitive tummy can handle the Orijen. Really healthy coats, great bowel movements. Right now on the California naturals, Mina is pooping about 4-5 times a day, but still formed and solid. On the Orijen it was twice a day and I could hardly call what came out poop. Same thing for our beagle, Coda. Dante on the other hand had the runs and blood. Mind you not long after they both got a GI infection - so that might've been related for him.

We actually spoke with Wysong today. They're sending us samples of their new Starch Free kibble for a Tripawds Nutrition blog review. They said our readers will be able to request free samples so stay tuned!

I'm going to wait and see what happens with the Natura foods. Calif Natural Herring and Sweet Potato is the only thing that Loki digests well and Kona is doing great on the Evo with her cancer. If they keep the recipes and ingredients the same and continue the high standards at the manufacturing plant in California then I will still use these products. I know a lot of independent pet stores are upset and worried that the foods will now end up at PetSmart or other superstores so part of the protest is a political issue (big business vs the little guys).
If I decided not to feed Natura I would probably feed one of the Solid Gold foods. This food has been around a long time and was intitially developed for giant dogs (Great Danes) and all of the dogs I have seen on it look great. It is very pricey but seems worth it. If your dog is on a limited ingredient diet then you might consider Natural Balance. This food is superior to Nature's Recipe and they have several excellent formulas. Taste of the Wild is a food that is similar to Evo (high protein/low carb) and should benefit most cancer dogs.

Great insight Pam, that hadn't even occurred to us but it makes sense, totally.
There is reason to be skeptical about large companies like P&G making our dog's food, but on the other hand, I've read in a few places that since the pet food contamination and the backlash that happened, many larger companies like P&G have seen the light and are jumping on the natural / healthy foods bandwagon, trying to regain customers and faith in their products. They're going to have to work darn hard to prove to a lot of people that they can create safe, nutritious foods, that's for sure but I'll stay open the pawsiblity that Natura will make sure they continue doing things ethically and nutritiously.
