Its been a long time since I updated about my DJ. And just over a month since she Passed. She did an amazing job with her recovery, she ran, jumped and swam with the best of them. We took her camping for 2 weeks and she went downhill. She went from the happy, healthy dog we knew to a dog who needed help to stand and needed to be lifted in and out of the trailer and car. We got home on the 11 th of August and on the 12th, exactly 6 months since her amputation she left us. It was the most difficult and the easiest decision we’ve had to make. We miss her and her antics terribly...
Oh no you guys! I'm really sorry to read this sad news, my heart goes out to you and your sweet Ellie. DJ left us way, way too soon. I'm so glad you got to take her on adventures though, and give her a great quality of life after surgery. What a very lucky girl to have such loving humans looking out for her.
The heavens are brighter with your angel lighting up the sky.

Thank you... I felt so guilty for quite a while for helping her cross over. Like was I taking the easy way out? Could I have done more? But the vet said her heart rate was more than double what it should be, her temp was dangerously high and she had cancer in her heart and pancreas. It was time. Poor little Miss Ellie was lost for most of the month. She didn’t eat properly for 2 weeks, she has just started playing again. She just looks lost. We are going to get her a companion dog but are going away for most of December and don’t want to have to board or ask someone to take a big dog.... ( because of course we need another big dog)....
I can relate, I think all of us can. It's super hard not to second guess ourselves in this situation but I can tell you now that in my experience, time proved that when we let Jerry go it was the right decision. That old saying "Better a day too early than a day too late" is so true. You are going to remember DJ when she still had her dignity, and that is the way all of us want to be remembered.
Yeah I can only imagine how Ellie feels. We didn't deal with that aspect of losing Jerry since we are a 1 dog family, but there's no doubt in my mind that dogs grieve. You are doing the best you can for her by waiting until your life calms down a bit and you can all focus on choosing the next pack mate to join you. I'm sure DJ is already picking one out for you 😉

Oh Grace, I'm so sorry to read this, so very sorry. We all know how much this hurts. The void, the break in routine, the ritual of second guessing every little thing over and over, it all just sucks!!
Ome thing we all know for certain, and this is a promise, the debilitating grief does subside. Never goes away, but gets pushed further and further into the background by the happy memories of your sweet big dog named DJ with big feet!
OMD , I love the photo Rene posted. Those beautiful eyes are melting my heart❤ Another smile maker from Mr DJ was of her making "snow cones" .
How did DJ get her name?
I'm glad you and Ellie have each other now. I'm sure she has learned to "be a dog" now thanks to you and DJ. I also know that you and Ellie have a wonder Guardian Angel watching over you now..
I know DJ is happy and fit and healthy romping through all the mounds of snow the Rainbow Bridge Angel's had ready for her when he arrived. I also know she already has a dog picked out for you to show what love feels like. And, as strange as this may sound....well......with her sense of humor he just may have a small dog picked out for you😉
Thanks for connecting with us. DJ touched us all. Your love and devotion for her came shining through with every word. And yes, the "easiest" decision to make out of love for her.....and the most difficult to make for us. Well said.
Hope you can share more adventures of DJ, with pictures of course!
