We are so sorry to report that the wonderfully happy boy that we've loved so much for 11 years is gone. He lasted twice as long as the cancer-diagnosis predicted, but that awful disease got him after all. As you can see in the picture below, he didn't let the amputation last January stop him from playing ball and having fun with his family. Right up to about 3 weeks ago, he was getting around pretty well. But after some serious mobility deterioration (his left rear leg was extremely lame, making him unable to stand), we took him to the vet and x-rays showed that his lungs were full of tumors. The vet explained how those tumors were relevant to the deterioration of mobility, but the bottom line was that things were not going to get better, and so today it was time to let go.
We miss him dearly. Thanks so much to everyone who contributes on this board. The support and community of this board, as well as the amazingly inspirational story of Jerry, helped us make the leap to the amputation in the first place, and so we had 11 additional months with our darling boy.
Willy--diagnosed with osteosarcoma January 5, 2009 (amputation January 27, 2009) left us just after his 11th birthday on December 2, 2009 to join all the other brave tripawds. We'll always love you!
You are such a brave, big beautiful boy. Thanks to you and your Mom for showing the world that we really can have a good quality of life after becoming a Tripawd. You will always be one of the great heroes that we all look up to here at Tripawds.
May you run free and play joyously, without pain, forever.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your boy Willie. We never have enough time with our precious furbabies. And at the end the only thing we can do for them is to let them go. I am thinking of you and praying for you in your time of grief.

Hi Willy's mom,
I was so sorry to read your post today... You gave Willy a chance at 11 more more happy months with you... and for that you should be happy...
Willy's beautiful!! I also have a german shepherd, Wolfie (almost 5)... but it was his older brother Jake (10yr old golden retriever) that just lost his battle to osteosarcoma, a little over 3 weeks ago. I know how hard it is... My husband and I are still grieving... so is Wolfie...
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...
Angel Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
I, too, am so saddened by your loss. My sincerest wishes that happy memories will soon replace the pain you are in today.

Willy's Mom I am so sorry for your loss It's a blessing that you were able to spend the additional time you had with Willy.
Willy will be in your heart forever and you will have nothing but wonderful memories. Willy is running pain free at the Rainbow Bridge. Please accept my condolences. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Mary & My Guardian Angel Angus
I too am so sad and sorry to hear of your loss, but happy to know that you and Willy had so many months of good times before it was time to say goodbye. I love his pictures, such a cutie. It's always hard to hear when another tripawd kid has left to join the others at Rainbow Bridge, tears fall and I wish no one else had to suffer the great loss, pain and grief that seems to come in overwhelming waves when we let them go. My thoughts are with you and your family and I hope that the good memories soon take the place of the pain and grief.
All the best,
Stacy, Angel Lulu and Olive
