i thought Tess was adjusting well to Otis' absence. She was not looking for him everywhere, and seemed to have accepted that he was not coming back. But then, this afternoon, she escaped from my backyard. The fence is questionable in a number of places, but neither dog ever escaped unless the gate was left open (and even then, Tess always stayed in the backyard). Neighbors found her at house 5. I think she was looking for Otis. She got home safely, and a neighbor nailed a piece of plywood over the likely escape hatch, but I am just so distressed thinking that something might have happened to her.
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Oh Christine,
I am so sorry that she escaped and was looking for her buddy. I am so glad your neighbors found her and brought her home to you. I know she is hurting too. <3 to both of you

Well....my take may be a little "out there". I do believe, however, it is completely plausible.
Tess was sensing Otis's presence from another dimension of energy. Tess was compelled to get to house 5 so she could connect with Otis on a level we humans cannot understand.
House #5! Too much of a "coincidence"'to be ignored! They were probably headed to Hoise #7 before their playtime was I interrupted!! To me....this is a huge sign from Otis she is still around watching over everyone! Tess is home and safe...and probably feeling a little smug about their adventure!
Love!

Oh, Christine - how anxiety inducing. Poor Tess - she did not mean to cause you stress.
Is there someplace you can go with her where she can socialize with other dogs so you can see if that seems to help her? Like a dog park or maybe just walking her with someone else and their dog?
Love to you both...

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
Oh wow... HUGS!!!! Big hugs to you!!!! I can't even imagine how they must feel... if they don't really comprehend what happened...
sending love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
