Hi-I wanted to post an update. I had posted a few times about our beautiful lab mix Rocky. He had right front amputation in January when he suffered a pathological fracture due to osteosarcoma. He did well until about a month ago when he developed weakness and limp in left rear leg. Vet could not find anything wrong. He really did amazingly well basically using 2 legs until last weekend when his other rear leg started to develop symptoms. It quickly progressed to not being able to get up at all so we made the difficult decision to set him free. He was 5 months post amputation-I had sure hoped for longer but I do not at regret the decision to do the surgery and know that we gave him 5 more quality months. This site has been so helpful to me-thank you for the support. I hope more vets will learn about it so they can tell their patients! Rocky was an incredible dog, well loved and will be missed!
Mamat, we are so sorry to hear that Rocky's time has come. He fought like a trooper, and you were there for him until the end; what a beautiful life he had, with a loving, compassionate pack. It always breaks our heart to know when a Tripawd has gone on to another journey. Know that you are in our thoughts tonight, and always.
Thank you for updating us about what happened. Please know we are here for you if you want to talk. May Rocky's spirit stay strong in your hearts, and ours, forever.

we are so sorry to read that rocky has passed. it's so hard when the body starts to fail, especially when the spirit remains strong. rocky is now running free at the bridge, whole, happy and at peace. although you didn't have as much time as you hoped for, we're sure it was quality time, full of heartfelt memories. love never ends.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
I am so sorry to hear that it was Rocky's time. As Charon says, it is really hard when the body fails but the spirit is still strong. That's how it was for Magnum too. Although the time was way too short I'm glad that you had good quality time together. Quality is what matters. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
I am so sorry to hear this of Rocky. So heart breaking. There is never enough time but it sounds like you had a wonderful 5 months!
I am really very sorry. We are here for you.
My deepest condolences.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
We are so sorry to hear Rocky has passed on. It was so beautiful that you gave him 5 months of love and happiness - just wonderful.
Sending biggest hugs to you

We are so sorry to hear about Rocky. It sounds like you feel good about the time you had after the amputation. Poor guy sounds like he fought a valiant fight, a true warrior against this horrible disease. Our hearts are heavy for you and your family but I hope some peace comes knowing he is not in pain and running free now. We are really sorry.

I am so sorry to hear about Rocky. We never have enough time to share with our tripawd heroes and I am sorry your time was limited. May the knowledge that you loved him, took care of him and then set him free when the time came carry your through this difficult time.
Sending many positive and healing thoughts your way ...
Beth, Spirit Smilin' Sammy and MB Wiggly Wrigley
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
So sorry for your loss. It's so hard to say goodbye to our furbabies.
Spirit Chili Dawgs pack
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
I am so very sorry to hear you lost your Rocky. I am glad you were able to enjoy five additional months together, although I know you were hoping for so many more. Hold tight to your memories of Rocky, and I hope you will soon reach the point where there are more smiles than tears. There will be many to welcome him at the bridge where he can run free.
Catherine, Spirit Scout and MB Tom
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
I'm so sorry for your loss of your boy, Rocky. There is never "enough" time with our pups, but I'm glad you have no regrets and got that extra special 5 months together.
Thinking of you at this hard time,
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Thank you for giving Rocky an extra 5 months of love and life and fun stuff. We know it's about quality and not quantity, and you showed Rocky you wanted whatever time he had left to really count. I'm so sorry you find yourself here now, having to let him go. There truly is never enough time.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

So very sorry to read about Rocky... I hope your memories of him and your life together will soon be recalled with happiness instead of tears.
Thinking of you,
