Puddin's pain was ended yesterday around lunch time.

A week ago from last Friday we took Puddin to the vet to have her staples removed from her front left leg amp. To my surprise when we walked out to the truck and I opened up the door for her to get into she jumped in the truck all by herself before I could reach down to pick her up. We went by where my husband was working to pick him up so he could go with us. Puddin sat up in the seat and looked around and got all excited when we pullled up to get her daddy. When we got to the vet I picked her up and sat her down and off she went walking in like a pro on her three legs.

After we got home she at all of her supper and was eating like she used to, everything in site. Then last thursday she didn't want to eat that much and we noticed some weakness in her back legs. If I helped her get to a standing position she could get around some but when she went to squat her legs would give and she would fall. even during that she would want to go outside to the bathroom and then right back in to rest.

Sunday she got a lot worse and was whining a lot. We uped her meds and we had scheduled an appt at Auburn University for her for Tuesday. We called Auburn Sunday and told them we were coming then that she couldn't wait. Our vet recommended we take her in case she had just hurt her back some way from putting so much on her back legs. We medicated her and off we went on our 4hr journey. We got to Auburn about 11pm they took her back and she actually stood on her front leg as they rolled her away (like here i go again).

We went back yesterday morning to see about her they never transferred her to oncology. They said her pain got extremely bad during the night to the point they couldn't touch her without her yelping. A x ray did show a tumor in her esophagus but there had to be a lot more cancer probably in her spinal cord or brain for her to be so painful.

We got to see her and say goodbye, I stayed with her while she got the medicine to end her pain. We loved her so and miss her so much, we rescued her when she was 4wks old and she would have been 12 in November. Our other dog is just lost and we are to, our place is so empty without her. Our life will never be the same without her.

We love andmiss our girl.

Dawn, Ken & Little One,

Our hearts are aching for you, we are so very sorry. Your beautiful girl tried so hard, and fought like a champ. Please try to take some comfort in knowing that you did everything in your power to help her feel better. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing her story, which we know will help other dogs and pawrents who find themselves in the unfortunate situation of traveling along this same path.

Here at Tripawds, we all do our best to support and encourage one another through the hard decisions before, during and after amputation. Every story is different, and while nobody knows how much time our furry family members may have left after a cancer diagnosis, all we know is that every extra minute we have together is precious, well spent time.

Despite the hardshihps, we truly hope that your time with Puddin after the surgery brought you closer together, without regrets or too much sadness.

It's hard, but please try to hold in your hearts your many good times and years you had as a family. May your bond last an eternity.

With much love,

Jerry, Rene & Jim

Dear Dawn,

I am very sorry and in shock as well to hear of Puddin's passing.  I truly share your pain.

I know it is going to be very difficult for you and your family to get through this.  Just hope you understand that you did what you did based on the information you had at the time; and that every intent of yours was to help Puddin.

She is now with her Creator, at a place where there is no pain, no tears, where innocent animals originally belong.

Whenever you need to talk, we will all be here for you.

Hugs,
Jessie

I cannot begin to explain how I am feeling after reading your story.  Puddin was a very brave dog, and obviously, you were very brave pawrents.  I am so sorry for your loss.  I feel your pain and wish there was something I could say or do to help you.  My sincerest condolences to all of you:  Dawn, Ken & Little One.

Love,

Oh what a sweet face.

Dogs like Puddin are put on this earth to make people into better humans. A face like that can light up your whole day.

Hang in there......

Love,

Oh my gosh, thanks so much for sharing pictures of Puddin! What a sweet little dog. I DO sincerely hope that eveyone's comments will help you through this time of loss & mourning. Even though Puddin has already passed on to the "Bridge", you may want to check out one of the resources that Jerry has put up on his website, tripawds.com. It may help you: http://www.Doug.....others.com by Doug Koktavy. I have not recently lost a beloved dog or cat, but Doug's writings may help to alleviate some of the inevitable feelings that come with grieving.

oh my - what a sweet face - my silly mommy always gets emotional when she sees beautiful souls and she falls in love with every "dog" she sees and meets - Mommy says that there is nothing like the dog (I happen to think she's right!)

Thank you for sharing your pictures...we also sincerely hope that we are in some very tiny way helping you through this. A big heartfelt hug through email - you are in our daily prayers.

Love

Dear Puddins mom,

I lost my son, Blacky, in April to cancer and know how difficult it is to lose a pup you have nurtured for so long. It is unfortunate that we cannot live as long as our pawrents, but at least our lives are so great and fulfilling when you get good pawrents like yourself. a 4th grader once said-

"People are born so they can learn to live a good life, to love and be nice to everyone. Dogs already know how to do that so they dont have to stay that long."

Keep your heart open, and when you least expect it, puddin will be there!

He's probably with Blacky right now, chasing a giant Kobe beef ball down a grassy field in slow motion!

Love,

Matey Girl...
