I'm sorry to say that our loved Penny has passed away. She got almost one extra year of life on three legs with happiness and joy! What happened was that she suddenly was very exhausted on the friday evening (that weekend when she passed away) and just lay down in the garden. She did not seem to have any pain, just tired. On the saturday everything was quite normal, but she didn't want to eat so much in the evening. On sunday she again was exhausted when she went out in the garden. My husband and I had to carrie her in. She didn't want to eat anything. She just lay down and slept. We went in to the animal hospital where she was amputated and got all her treatment last year. When we got there she was a little more alert and waved her tail and was happy to meet everyone there. She drank some water and just relaxed when we were waiting for the veterinarian. They took some blood samples and did a lung x-ray. The x-ray showed several metastasis and the blood samples was not so good. So we decided it was best for her to be put to sleep. I/we miss her so very much!! I have cried sooo much and still do. But it couldn't had been better under the circumstances. She got an extra year with so much quality of life, was alert and happy almost to the last minute and then just fell asleep. The last days I have been sad in a different way. I think I have started to realize that she really is gone. But nevertheless she is around us and we have so many wonderful and fun memories from her!

Gunilla,
I remember Penny well. She was such a beautiful girl and I am so sorry for your loss. Many wishes for peace and comfort to you and your family (including Wilber!) during this difficult time.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
Sorry very sad to hear of your loss! Know in your heart you did the best for Penny.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear Penny has passed! She was such a beautiful girl, and I know she loved her family so much. I'm so glad you were able to have so much more time with her. I know there were an awful lot of wonderful Tripawds who met her at the Bridge and are with her now. Sending healing thoughts to you tonight.
Take care

I'm so sorry you've lost Penny. I know how much quieter and cleaner the house will be, and that is always sad for me. It makes it so doggone obvious. I imagine Wilbur is having to adjust as well.
I'm so relieved you were on top of things and able to get Penny to the vet so soon. She didn't have to hurt and she didn't have to be afraid. Thank you for looking after her and loving her so much. I'm sure she was grateful for all your tender care.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Gunilla, I'm so sad to hear this news about Penny, please accept my condolences. Penny was a brave cancer fighter, she really beat the odds and showed everyone how to live life even when faced with so many challenges.
It's so hard to say goodbye but like Shari said, you didn't let her suffer. That is the most difficult but honorable thing a pet parent can do. I know there is nothing harder than losing a best friend like her, but I hope as time passes the good memories will start to outweigh all of the sadness you feel right now. It takes time for sure.
I know you've had challenges posting photos, if you'd like to email me one or two I'm happy to put them here so everyone can see Penny's pretty face.
Many hugs coming your way, I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry to hear about Penny. I remember her well. A beautiful girl.
I'm so glad she was able to move on without fear and with you by her side. I know how special that is.
But I know it still hurts like hell. Sending you many hugs. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
So sorry for your loss. She was obviously a very much loved girl. Grief is so hard. I am grieving the loss of a dog I bred 15 years ago and kept close contact with. He was a favourite of mine. Hope both our dogs are running free and happy at the rainbow bridge, watched over by our loved ones who have also gone.
Gunilla and family, for you to be able to hold onto "under the circumstances it could'nt have been better" is such a tribute to your devotion to Penny and her quality of life.
Clearly Penny knew you would be there through every second of this journey and she enjoyed all of the love and joy you immersed her in.....what a victorious journey !
Being "owned" by Bull mastiff myself, is being loved by such a gentle who lives ever moment with goofy abandon. Just as you immersed her with all your love, she immersed you with a love and joyous memories of a life well lived. Nothing separates you from Penny when a bond is that deep.
Perhaps as you go to the garden, you may notice new life bursting forth....perhaps near her favorite spot....perhaps that's must Penny's way of letting you know that her energy is life affirming and infinite and always surrounding you , especially through nature.
My heart is with you and your family. When you can, think of one of her funny little antics.....maybe you're even thinking of one now.......is it the droll when Penny smelled food?? Something else funny she always did?? I hope her memories always bring you joy and peace...she would want that for you.
